Water

you know good clean drinking water would be the major problem in most situations, as once the water plants quit working allot of cities would not have any water pressure to get water to the populous.

personally I would want to have one of those nice personal water filters for just such an emergency

you could boil the water you do find if there is any
also
Water is also good for hygiene which is important too, even with zombies hanging around, the chance for disease with the rotting zombies around is bad enough so might as well do best as you can to keep clean and healthy as possible

remember

30days without food
3 days without water
3 minutes without air
all depending on variables but generally a baseline to go on

You should talk to NIE about writing a piece for the Survival Guide on Water purification. He has been looking for someone to write that up.

On Z-Day, the first thing I am going to do is scream like a little girl. Once that's out, I will be ready to function.

there are a lot more methods of purification than those mentioned but the key problem is not purification in most cases it is obtaining it, so methods such as the solar still would have to be used to collect water, or even plant bagging (collects the transpired water). purification is not as big a concern as obtaining your water.

I think he's talking about the maximum documented human capacity, not what we all can do. Although :45-1:30 minutes is reasonable if your physically active.

"Yendor makes an interesting point."

most people cant.... the 3 minutes is most likely for before brain damage starts most people i know have a hard time holding past 30 seconds.

and depending upon activity and cause of lack of breathable air. people will pass out before then.

some people in confined situations working such as in a storm sewer who run into a area that lacks oxygen....(yes this is possible so for those of you who like to explore the storm sewers be very careful) will continue working and breathing but because the air does not have sufficiant oxygen they eventually pass out.... there are safety procedure for working in confined area by OSHA that should be followed including the resque of said casualties. Just dont jump in and try and resque them as you could too become part of the problem.

sorry got to babbling agin.....

Does the solar method with the weight and everything also purify the water?

I believe that just collects the water. You still need to boil it if you fear the water is contaminated.

yes, hygiene should be considered as a necesity, but when zombies attack, i can assure you that people wont be thinking about how they smell as compared to all the other problems they have to face.

Keeping clean, i understand, is also to keep yourself healthy, but mehtods have proven that an animal can actualy smell a clean human miles away.

In africa, there is a prof. that is doing research on crocs and he got himself a croc costume, and to cover his scent, he rolls in hippo dung every morning.

So, i think that hygene shouldn't be an issue in the post Z world

The one word that describes how i live: B.E.B.Z
(Bullets, Explosions, Babes, Zombies)

Oh, yeah, you heard me! THE MUPPET SHOW SAID SO!!!
