I've read it. I hated. It was listed in comedy. Nothing funny about it. All the things he made up anyone could have made up. A fair proportion of the book were simply stories. Boring stories. The most interesting and informative bits were the zombie killing and evading tactics. The weapons information was atrocious. He neglected the useful information on household tools in combat even though this book wasn't for "hunters" it was for the average chap who didn't have time for zombie survival. He claims this was for "space restrictions". After cutting this out for space he then dedicated whole pages to things like machine guns and cannons or something. Ridiculous weapons that the average person (who the book was aimed at) would never procure.
All in all it seems 70 percent of this was useless trash. The rest was useful but not entirely. For the publicity and kudos he got this book should have had fireworks shooting out the back and 14 wheels and it should come with a free drink and fries. Furthermore i suggest you'd be better off with the SAS survival guide and probably reading the Alpha Dog live journal. I learned far more from that. The link is in my signature.

the brooks book has a purpose that it serves quite nicley. it is there to inform people of the zombie threat, and nothing else. alot of his advice is pratical and lifted straight from other surival type manuals. and it dispells alot of ideas of what people will do on Z, day.
In my opinion the brooks guide serves to help dispel the badass in all of us. helps to get over the idea of grabbing a sword and go Dead rising on hordes of zombies in a mall.
secondly nothing really new has been introduced about the zombie genre since land of the dead. so yeah 99% of the stuff he said has already been said by someone else. the only thing original that he came up with his the solanium virus.

I stand by what i said. He's stated in that book before that he wrote it for the everyday person. Despite writing it for the everyday person he didnt include enough everyday things. Therefore his book did not serve it's purpose that YOU gave it. It didn't fulfil the purpose the Author had for it either. Your point is invalid.

Which I think someone here said was the name of a potato virus....
Dear god.... You're trying to start a war...
Oh yeah, you misspelled Brooks (and I think I spelled something wrong).
what do u mean by everyday things?
I am by no means advocating the brooks book, anyone who gets all their information from one source is a fool.

It's funny how this argument never dies, always comes back, and never makes any progress in either direction.
Only here would we debate a book/writer as seriously and passionatly as say....abortion or illigeal immigration.
If you dont like his book, maybe your expectations were too high.I dont think he wrote it to save lives. Or even be totally serious, theres good ideas in it, bad ideas in it, and in general its a nice short smooth read.
If its that bad, and he did the literary world a huge disservice, try writing your own, and i mean that in all senserity.

Kalimah- Been 10 steps ahead of you for a while now. Been writing a zombie survival guide for the past year, and so far have yet to see an ending.

You can read and read and read on a subject until your eyes fall out of your head and one still won't know the true knowledge of surviving an event until they live through it.
Brooks wrote a guide to go along with Romero films, in a comedic sense. Some people live by it's words, others don't even find it good enough for amusement. To each his own.
