Many people have many different opinions on the best method of transportation after Z-Day, may it be walking, bicycle, truck, car, etc. WHAT EVER! I have a different opinion, a Liebherr T 282B or something like it. The Liebherr is a MASSIVE dump truck (or more properly called, Haul truck) that is much bigger than any citizen owned vehicle and any size person. There for it can climb/crush almost anything in its path.
The T 282B has an empty weight of 203 tons and a maximum capacity of 365 tons. It is 14.5 meters wide (47 feet and 6.68 inches) and 7.4 meters tall (24 feet and 3.33 inches) over the canopy, with a wheel base of 6.6 meters (21 feet and 7.84 inches). The top level model is driven by a 10.5 tonne, 90 litre diesel engine, producing 3650 horsepower. This engine powers two Siemens electric traction motors in the rear axle (this means it’s a hybrid) and can reach a top speed of 40 mph (65 kl/h). (information provided by wikipedia.com)
The bed can be used to haul survivors, supplies, etc. Plus they are relatively safe do to the height. And by doing some miner adjustments as in blockading the stairs to the cabin and a V-nose plow on the front.
Tell me what you think. And if you’re going to flame, be gentle.

The truck is like a mobile fortress, there for I need to ask what about fuel consumption? I know that when it's used for deep earth mining they need to refuel it every 3-4 trips, it may be better on flat ground but it's not made for long distance travel and its pretty slow. 40 MPH? I mean for it's size it's alright but getting somewhere fast or having to do a convoy sprint would not workout for this machine... But, if you could get a bunch of them you could build a fortress almost anywhere, pretty awesome...

where are you going to get one? Even if it's post z-day. and the keys are in the ignition. Where are you going to look for it? Previously mentioned, what about fuel? Besides that, they cant be parked in a safe spot that is easy to find. e.g. a warehouse might be big enough, but how many of those are you going to find?
And also, it would probably be a bitch to clean.
But it is a cool vehicle.

Very cool vehicle. But I agree with leuco, it would be too risky without a safe place to park. There are a lot of places for a zed to hide in that thing.
And of course, fuel consumption is always a concern.

Fuel consumption, training required to drive, very conspicuous, maintenance, speed, weight (try driving that over a regular bridge and you might just be taking your life in your own hands). Yep that was only what I could think of in about 2 min.

Though I agree this vehicle would be a brute, you need to think about the ungodly high amount of diesel fuel this thing will drink!
Let me put it in perspective, the average Semi-Truck gets around 7 miles per gallon of diesel fuel, in a 15 liter engine.
Now, we have the gigantic 90 liter 20 cylinder Detroit Diesel engine powering this behemoth of a dump truck. Keeping this thing's tank fueled is going to be quite a feat.
This thing measures in at 29 feet wide! The average lane of traffic is 10 feet wide. The height of this giant is 24 feet. The highest clearance for a bridge is 14'6" which is ten feet shorter than this vehicle. Let's see what she weighs, 203 Tons! that is huge, and even if you were to take it on the road, some bridges probably wouldn't support that kind of weight in just one spot, and you fall through.
Just like any other vehicle on the road, it needs maintenance, and I don't know about you, but I do not think that you are going to easily find the amounts of oil that the engine will require, nor will you find the fuel, oil, and air filters, not to mention the water separators, and the colossal amounts of grease that it needs to lubricate any of the vehicles systems. Now, suppose one of the hydraulic drive hoses bursts, do you know of anyone in the field that could whip up a four braid hydraulic line? How about the hundreds of gallons of hydraulic fluid that this pig will need when a line bursts?
I'm done.
Please, think long and hard before selecting a vehicle. And put a lot of thought into it before you post.
