In an effort to improve things on this page, we the moderators have set up a test site where we may test new features that may be implemented on ZPI in the near future.
The idea behind the test site is to test different things, without risking crashing ZPI as it did when the filter was installed. This site is not viewable by you, but, rest assured, we are working hard to bring forth some new and exciting additions to this site.
What we want from you:
Suggestions, what needs to be fixed, or added.
Please, if you do leave a comment, that is fine, but know this, comments are one thing, if you feel the need to flame someone over their suggestion or comment, there will be issues... I do not want any flaming, or bickering on this forum, this is a serious matter, and I want you all to take it that way.
This is what we are testing and working on right now: (Not in any particular order, but these are high on our priority list)
Chat (fixing it, or creating a new one)
Fix access issues so restricted forums are actually restricted to certain members *group topics
Improve layout to make navigation easier (thoughts, suggestions?)
Fix random SQL errors (pain in the ...)
EDIT by captainrads:
Roles- Which ones to add and what perks/powers they should have. Thus far, we are considering the following roles:
- Trusted Member- is a role given to those who have shown themselves to be looking out for the best interests of the forums and the site as a whole. The content they submit is productive and helpful, and they are rarely disruptive. Once a member has achieved Trusted Member status, they will be able to apply for other roles:
- Editor- would be responsible for managing articles. They would assist the author in getting them published as well as helping to keep articles overall up to date. Having the ability to edit content throughout the forums as a whole, they would also have the ability to remove content which violates the rules. Assisting in keeping the forums organized would also be a lower priority duty. Though the editor will have the ability to edit content, their duties lie outside the forums, other than moving topics.
- Forum Manager- would assist the moderators in managing the forums; both keeping topics under control and assisting in solving disputes between members. Inevitably, arguments will arise and tempers will flare. Forum managers will have the power to lock posts, edit content, and will act as a mediator to solve disputes. Forum Managers will focus on the forums, letting other roles handle other aspects of the site.
- Expert- is someone who is very knowledgeable in a particular field. Experts will be the "go-to" members when questions arise about their field of expertise, and will have the ability to assist authors of articles pertaining to their field. As such, they will also be expected to write articles of their own. We may be setting up a Question and Answer content type in which experts can be asked questions. Exactly how this content type will be formatted has yet to be decided; we are taking suggestions.
Update:
We have set up a developer role for those of you who happen to know Drupal and/or PHP coding. If you are interested in helping us build the site, feel free to PM Eliot about applying for the role.
Update again:
The editor role isn't working as it should...and neither is the forum manager role. Unfortunately we'll have to hold off on applications for the roles until we can get everything functioning as it should. Apologies from the admin/mod staff.
Edit by Sarge:
Update Yet again
I have been working on repairing and updating the Abuse Moderation portion of ZPI (seen as Flag as Offensive to everyone else) and will have it back online soon. What will be changing is if some topic or reply to a topic is flagged as offensive by multiple members (repeated clicks by same user won't count) that comment or topic will automatically pull itself down, requiring review from the Admin team. Secondly, if your topic or comment was flagged, you will be notified by the system first, giving you a chance to fix the issue before one of us does, which could keep you from becoming banned. -Sarge

A random topic section and some mod picks for topics. I think that these would be best located on the left hand side under Recent Posts.
Also, was this why the site was down about fifteen minutes ago?

I cannot say what the issue is however, I am trying to figure that out as well.

what about a poll? like every week on something randome or maybe not so random. just chillen on the side bar where you dont necessarily have to go to a post. I see it a lot on radio sites and well it just give's a little more kick in my opinion
We got rockets! We got rockets in our pockets!!
A bot for the chat, like what is commonly found in IRC channels.
This is porn, not Shakespeare. The quality is more than sufficient.

Well, with all the bots and spammers mayhaps we need a section devoted to them. They aren't too smart so I'm guessing that about 50% would actually post there. And you know when they're all grouped together it makes it a lot easier for bazooka kills...

Don't let Eliot near this please!!!

HASTA LA VICTORIA SIEMPRE
Maybe a feature like the side bar with new posts, only it just lists how many new posts. Then you click on that and it takes you to a page showing all the new posts and threads. I think that might make navigation easier.
If you had to earn every sunrise, you would never take another day for granted.
I was also wondering about the chat feature. Is it operational now?

When new mods are elected how about a list of members where everyone else could vote on who they would want, providing people aren't voting just for themselves.
It's better to burn out than to fade away......
Definitely a list of all of a person's posts, like you can find in other forums. I know of the tracking feature, but it's just not that great (or I can't figure out how to work it). Also, an advanced search feature would be wonderful.
