Do you already have a list of things that you want to collect that have absolutely no value for survival after the shift?

I've gone back and forth on this idea for a few years:

If I was on the move (ie -- with just a bug out bag or a backpack):

The smart answer is probably nothing. That being said, I considered a deck of cards, a paper back book, or a journal. Each time I found something different to read, I would just toss the previous paperback. The World becomes our library! The journal could help remember what you passed, where you found supplies, keep track of the zed you dispatched, or just to clear your head. I have fought the temptation to go with an Ipod or portable player of any kind. The idea of taking out your sense of hearing for even a moment seems like a tip top terrible idea.

If I was stationary and occasionally going out for supplies (and assuming I am coming back alive each time):

For starters, Games, (batteries -- possibly a legitimate supply, but not if they are just for powering entertainment), books, portable DVD player, puzzles, puzzle books, candy, baseballs and a batting tee . . . just to see how much damage one can do . . .

With everything you do in life (including, but no limited to killing zombies), you should always aim for the head and destroy the brain.

Agreed.

I think in addition to card and board games I would also look for pnp rpg's since many of us play video games and are used to a little more interactivity in our entertainment. Lots of books, pencils, pens, and paper. A pool table would be awesome. Also everything I would need to start brewing beer or making moonshine. Probably a few more things I could add to this list, if I think of anything and remember I'll add them.

YES a PnP'er ! Id personally start collecting 3rd Edition and all lower editions of Dungeons And Dragons coz they rock !!!
Paper lots of paper and ballpens, pencils.. Nothing helps your sanity like writing, drawing, artistic outlet of some form to make you "forget" your circumstances...
I know its a bit "un-original" but MONEY.. Hells yeah Id collect tons of bills, coins anything just to sort of have it for the hell of it
Batteries and a few portable dvds, including a lot of DVDs just to have something to do while the world burns..
Books, probably set my safe house as a library would be hella cool..
Id love to try a twinkie, am living in Denmark and we have no twinkies, so Id figure Artilerysmith would bring em over here in his submarine and Ill cook you some danish foods

NO! 28 days later is NOT a zombie movie..!!

738-37? What kind of grid coordinates are those? I need at least a 10 digit grid to pinpoint some steel rain on target. with that grid, someone withing 1000 meters might get blown to hell. It's a no go on HE we're gonna use an Excalibur round.

It was his post number. . . trust me this isn't my first rodeo. . .

I think people are starting to lose focus on this post. It isn’t about things you want to keep you alive and sane… it’s about that crap you know is junk but you want anyway. Like I’ve always wanted one of those mini display fridges they have to keep drinks in. I don’t need it, it’ll more then likely be the first thing I lose when/if I have to bug out, but I’ve always wanted one, and after Z-Day I’m getting one! LoL

Let me tell you how I got these scars...

I will (if given the opertunity) collect diamonds. I don't care about their worth, and I do not plan on ever using them to trade with other survivors. I will make it my duty to search all of the corpses lining the streets (after I make sure to place a round in their heads) to see if I can salvage their diamond rings.

The reason behind this is simple and may be concidered a bit psychotic. I want to errect a watch tower in the middle of a fort that I am planning to build (once given the opertunity to build without too high of a risk to health) lined on the outside with all of the diamonds I salvaged. A means of errecting something beautiful in a now ugly world while being a symbol representing the birth of a new world from the ashes of the old.

That is if I survive. We shall see.

Short answer to your question Arty, is NO. I carry enough gear just to survive, I'm not thinking that there will be a whole hell of a lot of time to search out an Espresso Machine or working DVD/TV player...
