Do you already have a list of things that you want to collect that have absolutely no value for survival after the shift?

Completely unrelated to survival stuff;
I'd personally get my a few really really nice suits, nothing like the feel of a nice suit to me, give me a little taste of humanity, I'd also probably get board games as well, mainly chess and a dart board. Little wooden ships to decorate my living quarters along with things like paintings or large posters, along with asian oriented cultural things such as those paper meche lights and bamboo curtains.
Just little things to bring a bit of pleasure to my living place.
Finally I'd grab every single morale patch I come across, maybe stitch a giant quilt of patches and just hang it on the wall for fun along with various novels to read.
One final thing I just thought about, a wind up clock, it's pretty easy to tell when it's noon in my opinion so I'd just wind up and use it to tell the time, another luxury from the past world.
Life is to be lived, not controlled, and humanity is won by continuing to play in face of certain defeat.

I think in addition to card and board games I would also look for pnp rpg's since many of us play video games and are used to a little more interactivity in our entertainment. Lots of books, pencils, pens, and paper. A pool table would be awesome. Also everything I would need to start brewing beer or making moonshine. Probably a few more things I could add to this list, if I think of anything and remember I'll add them.
Twinkies! (I'm just kidding). I would actually probably take command of Chapters or some other bookstore. A benefit of books (other than the fact that they rock) over video games is that books would be more easily transportable when on the move. It would be difficult to run around with a gaming system or a computer, but a book could easily be taken with you in the event that you had to spend some time away from home base. Unless it was impractical (taking into account time, noise, distractability, and electricity) I probably would get a large TV and some gaming system anyways. Since I would probably have some spare time (no more school or work) I would probably also look into making some things I've always wanted to build and try.
I actually had this idea that, while everyone was trying to take over Wal-Mart I’d go after Best Buy. For 1 it has lots of books, DVD/Blue Ray’s, computers, and anything you could need for electronic devices. Second it has one of those commercial generators that can keep the entire building running on power for about a month. Learned that during the last bad ice storm where they were still open even though the area was without power for about 3 days.
Now the third benefit is actually double edged. The Best Buy I’m looking at is connected to a Target that has pretty much all the same stuff Wal-Mart has only in red. I was thinking about, for the long term, locking up the Target permanently and cutting a hole between the stores. Of course the logistics of this make it more fantasy then feasible, but hay, why not, right? With a big enough team it should be possible.
Let me tell you how I got these scars...
After the shift there are a lot of things that I want. Here's a short list.
A silver Thunderbird, a dune buggy, a VW minibus, and a race car from the 20s.
An industrial reloading machine, miles of det cord, antique grenades, an atlas missile, a diesel submarine.
Insert any food here. I want to try it. I want to try at least a plate of it.
Edit: I can't modify this post. Other than making me sad, this post also makes me look like a moron. Just thought you would need to know about the absence of the edit button.

I'd be collecting a lot of semi-raw materials (Tungsten, other metals, plastic sheet, fabric, foam), along with accompanying tools, both small tools and industrial scale.
Every rapid prototyping machine, CAD machine, and computer with associated software I can find. I mean, really.
An arc furnace
A lot of electronics supplies (Power sources, random stuff)
And finally, books. Thousands upon thousands. The libraries would be MINE!

Yeah, I'd like to take controle of the library of congress and add some shelf space. You can never have enough shelf space.

Alcohol, fine watches, cigars and humidor, suits, music, video games, DVDs, condo, television, automatic weapons, detcord (thanks arty), grenades, mortar tubes and mortars, sports car, Humvee, shoulder fired rockets, books, solar panels, wind turbines, and a helluva nice island

They call me Bob, Cheddar Bob!
Taking over a drug store and saving / keeping tabs on a pharmacist would probably be a good idea. Just because there is a zombie invasion doesn't mean that other problems will go away. Drugs (legal ones) and the knowledge on how to make them would be a terrible loss. Sicknesses and diseases that were previously treatable could become huge problems. I would try to find the medicines and the people who know how to make them.
Edit: I guess this does have survival value but not really zombie related.
I think I need to add something to my list: fine smokables and accessories(pipes and whatnot). Gotta enjoy the finer things...and smoking a cigar while killing zombies is one of the greatest cliches ever.
Friends, is proper English so hard?
