A temp fix for the search function problem.

theelous3 Posted: Fri, 07/10/2009 - 08:59

First off, I know this isn't technically a site suggestion.
I've noticed people starting off recent posts with things like "the search isn't working but..." and I have no problem with that, I do have a work around that you all might find useful.

If you google your query (the one you would have put in the zpi search) and put site:ww2.zombieinitiative.org after the query google will search zpi for the words you put in. So instead of using the zpi search, you do the same thing through a 3rd party (teh g00gl3)

Hope this help's someone.
Take it easy,
theelous3.

I would like to take this time to inform you that theelous3 is absolutely correct. Any third party search engines work. With that in mind, everybody had better think before you post, because though our search is busted, theirs isn't, and I will not accept "The Search isn't Working."

mayhaps the formatting of the search is a little off? the first two are from ZPI but everything else is not, I doubt it is safe to say that we have only two pages that reference guns

I never noticed a search problem...it worked just fine for two searches I just tried.

It has been a major thorn in my side - never happens from my windows XP machine only from my vista one. It may be that I use firefox at home but yes it is a pain.

I haven't ever had a problem with the search either and I use it just about daily. Has someone notified our beloved Moderator about said "malfunction"?

This was the first I have heard of any such problems, it is funny how nobody does directly contact a moderator or administrator about any problems on the page. I just tried the search on zpi with mixed results. Once it found what I was after, the other it didn't. Both times I used something I knew I posted to make sure it worked. I don't know anything about how to fix it, however I will be informing Eliot.

roumor has it it is a vista issue, it was discussed at lenth in the posted link - Corma believes it is only with vista and not limited to ZPI

Hey, it seem's you searched for "gun:ww2.zombieinitiative.org"
You should have searched "gun site:ww2.zombieinitiative.org"

Gun is the query, site: is the command for google to only search the set site, which in this case is ww2.zombieinitiative.org.
