I was using stumbleupon and came across this video from BBC. Pretty much in 1977 in New York there was black out that lasted a mere 2 days and people started looting and there was general chaos. Also a few years ago Toronto and other areas had a blackout that lasted approx 24 hours and people had trouble dealing with that. Now, How many people know they can survive with no technology as in no gas no electricity, chopping wood, running the plow and what not. Personally I think if people do know how to do certain things old fashioned like what I mentioned they should come forward and let us know and maybe provide pointers and hints and how-to's on this

HA HA! How many of you guys have lived in the woods for several weeks all at the same time? Gathering food and firewood isn't nearly as hard as these people make it sound. It's really kind of sad that so fiew people ahve the ability to live for longer than three days if they were dropped off in the middle of the woods and left to die.

I believe that southern people (USA) have more of a chance of survival.
Now if your a northerner and you train and stuff like that its different. But I'm talking about the usual BUM that sips starbucks and blames Bush for everything:)

Im a notherner (Upstate New York) and have had no formal training whatsoever. I don't really blame bush for 100% of everything (only 92.7%), but I do think he is a moron. However, after watching a marathon of man vs. wild two of my friends and I decided to try and live in the woods near my house for as long as we could go. We each had a folding knife, we had one axe, and I had a zippo for a fire. We also had backpacks with raincoats, 5 bags of jerky each (we had no other way of obtaing food since we didnt own weapons or hunting liscenses and there was nowhere to fish), and a cell phone in case of emergency. We ended up staying 12 and a half days, only leaving because we ran out of food. Overall it was a nice experience (although a tad boring), gathering firewood by chopping up dead fallen trees (small ones), making beds of leaves and pine needles and stuff, looking at the stars at night, and playing mean pranks on each other the whole time. I honestly am surprised we made it so long, since we live in suburban areas.
