In many cases I see trigger happy, sugared up kids talking about shotguns.
This burns me. They put little thought into it really. Lets go over some pros and cons to the shotgun shall we?

1 PROS
multiple targets- As most of you know a shotgun shoot the pellets from the shell. This can prove to be effective for multiple targets, but may not guarantee a kill.

CQB (Close Quarters Battle)- For this type of situation with proper skill and training, anyone with this weapon can be deadly. nuff said.

2 CONS
Reloading- many people think they can take on the world with a shotgun. But in tight situations, how fast with you be able to cram shells in? its not like a magazine. Although I have seen more current shotguns with drum mags. (AA12?)

Recoil- Shotguns give a powerful kick. I don't think many people that think they are the biggest and baddest kids (sugared up little kids)
can take it. I cant count how many times I have seen a kid who talks $*&# but cries when he bruises his arm.
Depending on the gauge that is.

the over exaggerated moron- How many people think the shotgun is the BeSt GUN EVAR, but have little to NO knowledge what so ever?

I'll update later after I am done shooting my father's 12 gauge pump action.
for more information on the Gun I will be using see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remington_870.
Also, give me some pros and cons that you notice with all shotguns.

I own two shotguns. Love em both but they both have a purpose. Every situation calls for different artillery. If your clearing a house a shotgun is your best friend, but on the flip side anything further out past 30-35 yards and you really aren't having much luck with a shotgun. So I say a shotgun is a good weapon to include in your arsenal but should not be the only weapon.

I have to agree. My 12-Guage is only used for CQB and door breeching. Its a specialized weapon, not a TOTALLY UNIVERSAL KILLING MACHINE FOR EVERY OCCASSION!

Every situation calls for ARTILERYSMITH though!

But seriously. Depending on the choke I can hit a dove at a bit over 30 yards with no problem at all. At close range if I hit a person with a heavy shell I'm sure that you would be able to see anything behind the target with no problem at all.

As for reloading the gun. Yes, it does take a long time to reload, but as blue said. Every situation calls for a different weapon. Most of the weight I'll be carrying around with me after the shift will be guns and ammunition.

But still...whoevers using a shotgun as a primary...it's a complement at best...for when things get nasty...

Like indoor areas, or when the gang down the street thinks their badass because of the extra armour they put on thier SUV, and they know your .22 won't get through...bust out the slugs...

Ok I admit it...I wanna know what a gangster would do when being shot at by 4 gauge slugs...

the gun used would be mounted of course...

Also people don't seem to think of how much ammo they would need to carry and how heavy it is...

Because the Muppet Show said so.

There is a reason why for over 100 years, the rifle has been the main issue weapon for every military in the world. There are of course situations that call for shotguns, pistols, belt fed MGs, whatever and militaries issue those weapons too for those situations. But the rifle is still the go-to gun.

I like this article on the subject. Don't Dump the Pump Shotgun.

wow pretty good article, I didn't know about 2 of those shotgun rounds the OC or CS Gas and the Foam round

thanks...

I wonder if that paint shot hurts...I know paintball paint shot doesn't (if you've ever pumped a old pump-action paintball gun twice)

Shotguns are heavy, and the shells are bulky. They are, however, loud and intimidating, and require little to no training.
