Chest Rig

TheBox Posted: Thu, 07/02/2009 - 19:00

Well I've done some lurking, and have yet to find even one topic talking about chest rigs, personally I've fallen in love with them. I live in a dry desert climate with highs of 120's and lows around zero, that's summer to winter mind you. While I enjoyed my molle plate carrier vest, It just get's so bloody hot in the summer I don't see how I could stand it with such a lack of shade in my area. That and it's difficult as all hell to fit my large ALICE pack (w/ frame) over the vest, so I come to the community with a general question.

Have any of you had any experience with Chest Rig set-ups? What was your opinion? Do you have any recommendations?

It needs to fit under an ALICE pack, somewhat comfortably would be nice lol.
It doesn't need magazine pouches really, my Mosin takes stripper clips and I've no clips yet.

I've taken a gander at SDK Tactical and found them to be very well priced and well designed over all...I'm probably going to gun for the Eagle Chest Rig, SKD All-Molle Version considering the price, and the ability to move parts around. Hopefully my Mosin won't be my mainstay forever.

Thank you all very much.

From experience rucking around Korea, we had vest with larger shoulder straps, that then had padding underneath them, so that your ruck's shoulder straps could fit comfortably on them. Also, have you tried wearing your Ruck higher up on your back? I usually have mine sitting on the middle of my back, so the weight is higher up. that way it doesn't drag you back. Just a tip, I wasn't sure if you've thought of it. I'll go look to see if I can't find that vest we had, and get back to you.

I'm severly biased but check an army surplus store for a tac vest

oh yeah, I sure do, when it rides low, it makes my back sore, and it flops like crazy, but thanks anyway for the advice! As for the vest you used, absolutely, I'd love that name if you find it. Finally, Demonic? That's where I tried on the chest rig in which I fell in love with it. It was so basic though that it was useless to me, with 4 grenade looking pouches and a radio pouch...not what I was looking for, but thank you too Smiling

I know our army tac vests have a lot of attachments that are interchangable. If I could get the money I'd buy each person that needed one a tac vest surplus and that way you have access to buy the various attachments as well

My personal chest rig is a blackhawk 8-mag rig with 2 pistol mag pouches. Its very comfortable, rugged, and efficient. I like it very well.

Superior gear will never make up for lack of training and attitude.

So I looked around, and I couldn't find exactly what we were issued, I'll have to contact a friend back there. But I did find this one with wider shoulder straps and I think it looks pretty sweet, a bit more then the basic chest rig. I personally have a black hawk vest from my last deployment. It's nice, with a cross draw holster and mag pouches, and it works well with my ruck, but I don't think I will ever be fully comfortable with my ruck.

Very nice thread, thank you for cluing me into it Airman, and please get back to me on that vest if you ever find out. Smiling

I am curious though Demonic, what is the vest you use?

Blackhawk gear is way too expensive for my taste, and I haven't found any I liked, considering the price...god I hate hype.

Might as well ask while I'm talking about ALICE packs too, is there any other site to get your ALICE MALICE'd up other than Tactical Tailor? That's pretty bloody pricey for my blood too, but god bless does that kit look nice Smiling
