it doesn't kill them you check the traps with a spear ..... well I guess a pungy pit might kill them :/
whatever happens pray for god's help.
You could use barbed stakes, like big straight fish hooks

think of the VC traps

Caltrops are four of five pronged spikes that sit on the ground whenever something (like a hors's foot or a tire) goes over it it dammages that something. It doesn't kill and it certianly doesn't hold an attacker in place.

Depending on if you put prongs in it like what the other fellow was talking about in reference to fish hooks, it could potentially hold a zombie there, then you kill them and remove them. Not too bad really, I kinda like the old school idea of sharpened sticks pointed up in the air at a diagonal angle.
kinda like this only on a much larger scale, like big enough to implale a human...I know it has a name but Google failed me

Caltrops are what ArtillerySmith described;

Ninja's also used them when they were running away from someone, they'd just throw some of these behind em, a point will always land facing upwards (when on fairly flat ground) when the enemy runs over it, screws thier feet and ninja gets away...didn't stop anyone just slowed them down...
now if you used barbs...that were secured to the ground...now they wouldn't be able to get away from that without stopping and twisting (gotta know the right technique) the barb out...otherwise they'll rip everything out between the barb and the floor...which is about as bad as having your foot cut off I guess...because it'll just be a stump after that...
oh yeah and Box, I thought you were meant to trip over a trip wire and fall onto the spikes...and the spikes were hidden in a long grass or somewhere that the enemy was likely to unconsciously run to for cover, like behind a grass knoll...
*look away if you don't like dieded animals...*
I'm warning you !!
Don't look !!!
it's not that bad but still...some might not find it tasteful
Here's a link if you wanna see, just incase someone missed the warnings;

Yes, that is correct...Cheetah are evolving, soon gazelle populations everywhere will be in noticable decline...
I think the Vietnamese taught them how to do it...

Or is this forum topic limited to just "caltrops"? If so then mayhaps it should be renamed "Caltrops", however if it is just generally about "traps" I do not see how it could not fit under one of the other discussions on the topic.
Assuming the discussion is on caltrops alone...

Due to the fact that caltrops operate on pain, and not actual tendon or bone damage, it should have a very limited effect on the undead "not effected by pain cannibalistic" variation of zombies.***
***Note this is my opinion and lacks foreseeable proof other than my knowledge of caltrops and the function of the human foot.

Glad someone mentioned the caltrops and the fact of the other trap related threads. Good work in zombifying this, it needed to be done.
