long ranged weapons,, that are not guns

NEJJY Posted: Tue, 06/30/2009 - 16:55

I live in England, and guns are hard to come across, well that and the girl friend does not like them but I thought in an invation, a long range weapons would be vital

So heres the questions
1) what would be the best long range weapon of choice (THAT ISN'T A GUN)

It could be anything as long as it is a real weapon, not a gun and accurate at least up to 20 yards

PS: How do you think the following would do in an invation

Air rifle
cross bow
BB gun :S

My solution. Please read And simply because I was cool enough to answer this before you asked do me a favor and try out our search function. You'll find quite a deal of long range weapons that aren't firearms. In fact I believe sanchez, an elder member to the site, had made a thread entirely dedicated to weapons which the UK are allowed to own; however this could have been referring specifically to fire arms, my memory is fuzzy.

I really didn't mean it to be as rude at it probably sounded. I'm just a really harsh teacher good to have you and seriously read my article post something on it. Tell me what ya think lol. All of the articles really are a good idea to read as many of them contain extremely valuable knowledge. If you need help getting around the site, don't hesitate to ask someone, I know I wouldn't mind helping and that's what the mods are here for. Welcome to the site btw.

Being a keen archer myself I would urge people away from traditional or recurve bows for head shots. Although they will do the damage, they WILL lack the accuracy unless you have a good year or two at least of archery experience (and keep at it). Compound bows on the other hand have a higher level of accuracy and reliability as they are often made of alloys and you do not need to use as much force to hold the string back (which can take a lot out of you) although they can take longer to nock an arrow, the effect is often worth is. Crossbows use bolts which are smaller but fatter than arrows. They have a much greater power than most bows and you don't need to hold the string back at all, although it can take alot of upper body strength to pull it back in the first place. The on going problem with bows, crossbows, arrows and bolts is that in the UK hunting with them is illegal and therefor any tip that has a point or is sharp is very hard to find or outright illegal. The best you can do is probably a field arrow tip which has good penetration but is unlikely to do much further damage other than a small hole.

Air rifle = I wouldn't even try it.

BB gun = you might aswell ask the zombie politely to stop eating your face Sticking out tongue

A bow may be your best bet, although I haven't used enough bows to really give any recomendations or anything. All I know is that it takes a lot of practice, and if you live in the city you might not be able to keep your skill up as much.

Crossbows seem to be great at first glance, but they are single shot weapons and load very slow. Not to mention that unlike a traditional bow, which you can make arrows for pretty easily if you run out, crossbow bolts usually have to be almost exact, which could pose a supply problem later on and probably even now. Airguns can make great weapons for small game but for zombies...nah.

My suggestion is to learn about guns. Learn all about what guns would be found in your country, proper shooting technique, etc. It may be illegal to have one but knowledge is free, one day the law might not matter anymore and you'll need a gun for self defense.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

As for different heads for your crosbow... I give you an excelent bit of hardware I descovered on a hunting trip with my uncle. (who, for arthritis reasons is allowed to use a crosbow for bow season)http://grimreaperbroadheads.com/

I would go w/ a recurve or a long bow assuming you have the matterials to make arrows
