As i have said im going to create a thread for us Tea and crumpet monsters (Uk residents) and possibly include things for the Yankey Doodles (need i say more)
Now, after looking around and reading your opinions on thermal vision goggles i have decided to scrap the idea of Thermals and go for the NVG. Now im assuming that most people here are working and on a Pay check of atleast 4K a year, obviously for you schoolers you'll have to be getting whatever it is for christmas and birthdays!
Anyway heres a set of Night vision Goggle . I personally think there great at a low price too!!
Crossbows, i think these badboys (if in the right hands) can be a serious bad ass piece of kit. The better ones are ofcourse more expensive by about £100 (about $190) which i will personally be buying once my house is complete. Now i ask a favor of one of you, if any of you can tell me where to find thin flexible wire rope i will be very happy  . Imagine this situation...Your on top of a Flat roof and the way down is riddled with zombies. You look around and notice another flat roughly 24 ft away from yours. Now you have the choice to climb down the steel drain pipes 100ft in the air or get your crossbow with rope wire attached to a specialy moded arrow and fire it into the water tank on the other side (i think there are arrows out there that have little hooks which spike out on impact) you then attach the other end to something sturdy and attach your harness to the rope then proceed to be Ethan Hunt. Its just an idea someone please put input on it.
As for Survival knives here is a good site to purchase them off.

Well we assume that they are reanimated dead which means that they would more than likely still have a heart beat. So they might still put off enough of a heat signature to somewhat pick up on thermals. Just a thought.
With Permission i am going to create a thread which i will update weekly with Low budget weapons and defense equipment for UK residents. Ranging from Melee weapons to Light armored vehicles.
Moving on to my main question..... I have been thinking about investing in a pair of Thermal vision goggles for a number of reason

You don't need permission to create a weapons thread of this nature. Already created quite a few. Excuse me while I wipe the coffee off my monitor after reading "Low budget" and "Light armored vehicles". Can those two phrases actually go together?
One simple suggestion. If you can provide information on how/where to seek training with any of the weapons listed you will be head and shoulders above any weapons thread on ZPI. Any information concerning laws would be a major bonus as well.
Don't bother. Lowest price man portable units are going to cost you several thousand. Even then they're probably going to of poor quality and a really crappy warranty (if it comes with one at all).
Not to put down your idea, I'd like to input that heat vision goggles are prohibitively expensive for civilians to own. The main buyers of such equipment are law enforcement and military. Compared to regular optics, these thermal ones are priced right out of the reach of most civilian buyers.

God i had such high hopes for these it's a damn shame too, cheap NVG's would've been nice, i might still have to check it out
i agree, plus thermal nvgs refresh color spectrum according to hottest, coolest thing. if it was a zombie with a glimmer of heat against a cool wall you would be able to see it. but you can get blinded by hot flashing things. a must have for hunting and raider defense.

I think they'd be useful... Hell it would save alot of time looking for food (Example: the foxxes your trying to keep out...) not only that if you come across a bunch of (We'll say huminoids...) well there's a good way to tell if they're living or dead...

I don't know why I didn't think of this before but why wouldn't you just use regular old night vision goggles. I used to have...well still have but they don't work anymore for some reason... a Night Owl Optics monocular with a 2x zoom that I picked up at a gun show for like $75. They worked very well and were equipped with an infrared spotlight so that they needed no external light what so ever to work. They provided an excellent quality of definition out to about 100 yards or so. Got a little bit blurry past that point if I remember correctly. All in all I think that the standard night vision would be more effective than thermals unless you are attempting to see through walls or things of that nature. Ultimately I think the biggest problem with either is going to be how completely inefficient both of these are going to be on batteries. I know that my NV scope used a very odd size battery that was about $12-15 for just one depending on where you went and it was last for maybe a good 4-7 hours of use. Eventually specialized batteries are going to get hard to find in a post apocalyptic zed infested world.
