Government or a Pharmaceutical company (Ala Resident Evil). Both have the resources and facilities to create it, and the motive (Weaponry and Retail, respectively). They both also have the assets to cover up any accidents...

I'm surprised 'occur naturally' doesn't exist in the list.

All that needs to be said is this: FIRE = BAD

i actually read about a new stephen king book called "cell" where cellphones put out an electronic pulse which turns the user into a zombie-like killer. so maybe that's a possibility, some wierd pulse that messes with your brain's wiring. i think zombies will come about from some virus, or wierd government experimentation that we are not yet aware of.

It is a mistake to fancy that horror is associated inextricably with darkness, silence and solitude.

I've been thinking back on this topic, in the sense of what zombie-ish scenario is most possible, and that led to thinking about what zombie like condition is most plausible. The walking dead is a pretty remote possibility at best, but some sort of mass crazy cannibalism thing (as in 28 days later or the aforementioned Cell) might be more likely. What I think is a very real, plausible situation is some infectious agent (virus, etc.) that has a couple day incubation time and turns the infected into raving murderous (but not necessarily super fast) lunatics, and is present in saliva for passage from biter to bitten. In this instance, the danger has a shorter time to run its course as the infected die off on their own, but in the interim the situation could really turn out as bad as seen in 28 days later if the starting infected population is lartge enough and it is not recognized in time.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you H5N1.

Seriously, this virus is really starting to worry me, it has pretty much every aspect needed perfected, way better than any of the other viruses I've looked at, and now we're trying all kinds of treatments on it!

yes Hong Kong 1997 (thats the other name for H5N1) does seem the most likely but keep this in mind when thinking about potancey

if zombieism happened i think it would be simular to the 28 days later theory.

The world will end not with a bang but with a wimper.
