This list is intense, but the list from Popular Mechanics I think is a very good list for things that will be useful now and in a zombie apocolypse. The ultimate DIY list, as they say. I don't know that they'll all still be relavent, but having the knowledge can never be a bad thing.

a french knife is a fancy name for the standard chef knife.

in reality a pomme fritte is potatoe based, where as a french fry isn't, at least in the UK
