In a zombie dystopia, would you take offensive or defensive tactics?

Not sure is there was a topic posted on this anyways. Anyhow, I would be defensive, definitely. I'd hole up somewhere and try to wait it out. I'd kill zombies if I had too, but I'm not going to go out looking for them.
It is a mistake to fancy that horror is associated inextricably with darkness, silence and solitude.
I personaly would go with defencive till i had decent supplys and a well fortifyed location THEN i would be going Offensive as it would need to be done to make the area safer for the survivers.
Will you hold me back? If need be I will leave you behind...
First order of business in a dystopia is to fortify your location.
Zombies are an enemy with unlimited determination and stamina, so they won't stop while you're shooting at them, they will keep coming. If you can survive the first few waves, you should have a pretty good shot at surviving.
Once everything is secure and free of clawing necrotic arms, then you can start figuring out how to fight them and what you can use to do so.
Bury deep, pile on the stones
Yet I will, dig up the bones

First offense, so as to find a safe place, then defense to keep it safe, then offense again to expaind the safe place(s).
All that needs to be said is this: FIRE = BAD
You don't just play one or the other. For the majority of the time, defense. Offense is necessary, when
A. The zombies break into your stronghold (in which case you better have an emergency exit ladder or something)
B. Moving to another location, or going out to collect supplies when food/water is running low
Other than that, it is pure survival defense mode. Zombies can hear gunshots as well as loud thumping, so it would be best to not make a lot of noise by shooting over and over again... Unless absolutely necessary, a defensive stand is a must to survive. Only a fool would think otherwise.
Ammunition isn't unlimited in real life. In my case, I do not even have a gun.
Does this make me an easy target? No, because I am thinking about D-FENS!!!
Ah. I like your tone, Smokey. Welcome.

For my money, it's got to be a mixture.
1. Defensive tactics when making my way to my Plan A location (friends house on productive agricultural land here in Australia) to sit it out for a while. Got to try to avoid attracting them on the way
2. Offensive tactics when conducting raids for necessary supplies eg: medicines
3. Defensive to fortify Plan A location to keep the zeds out.
If we hole up, I wanna be somewhere familiar, I wanna know where the exits are, and I wanna be allowed to smoke
Fortify, defend, and attack if necessary. Leave when you have to only to find another place to defend and stock up on supplies. Repeat.
"They drew first blood not me..." (Stallone in Rambo: First Blood)

Personaly confining yourself to just one tactic is dooming yourself as food. You cant fight forever and you cant sit forever.Personaly i would move if i find it necesary and/or usefull.
One thing about zombies hearing sounds is that walls difuse sounds greatly. Also anyone ever think of using a megaphone to atract zombies to far far away land ?
Or better yet a death trap.Preferably a remote one.
Cause wearing a tux during Z-Day will make me look good and die trying.
Control the land. If you sit in your fortress afraid of the Undead you're just going to build up their reputation and become even more paranoid and unwilling to attack or move.
In every war, the people who have been unafraid in controlling and living in the country on which they fight have one. Look at one of my favourite examples, Vietnam. Americans sat in Firebases, living semi-comfortably, waiting for the Communists to assail them. The communists had free reign of the country, and although they lost most battles they committed themselves to, the fact is that they won due to their overwhelming control and freedom of movement in the country.
Bases are necessary, but don't depend on a fortress strategy. Locked up in a room long enough, and you start make believing threats that aren't really there.
