Melee?

Guns are ideal for hunting zombies. You have a range bonus, as well as sheer power. However, guns can make you sore after many shots, could run out of ammo , jam, or hit a fellow survivor. So I ask you.....

What is the best melee weapon?

Sharp objects can do damage, but can get stuck in the zombie. Blunt weapons require a lot of force, and break. Are there any good melee weapons you would suggest stocking up on?

There is no such thing as the perfect melee weapon or the best melee weapon. But there are many good melee weapons. A melee weapon should be different for each person. It depends on the amount of money you can spend on it, how much you can carry, your training with it and so on.

Have a nice day!

I like knives.

Well, for starters, look to the choosing your weapon article in Fighting Back.

Past that point, I'm probably walking over another well-trod trail of posts but here we go anyway: Make sure your melee weapon is also a tool for escape as in: busting door locks/hinges, windows, even possibly an exit-hole through dry-wall.

We've established that we can't melee forever. That leaves the question, what do I have in my hand that might help me get away, too?

If you're going to the local hardware store: Stanley Fubar... good bashability paired with functionality. According to what anecdotal evidence I've read, it's great at bashing holes through things, but can become tiring.

Old-fashioned? Hammer/axe... I don't know why, but I found one in the garage (previous owner's). Allows you a choice...

Really old fashioned? War hammer... ideally with a head/spear point/reverse edge. Then you can have some choices in attack/defense.

Avoid the fashionable but probable failures: katanas, sledge hammers, crowbars. They all have a fiasco waiting to happen: katana meet door. sledge hammer meet exhaustion. crowbar meet arm-numbing vibration.

I messed with Texas.

probably.

I say a good ol' longsword, (shing, sparkle sparkle) they have good reach, they are designed to cut/break through bone and they have pretty good range, plus they aren't too heavy so you should be able to run with it without too much trouble depending on how you're carrying it (hip sheath, shoulder sheath, no sheath, and so on).

unfortunately... there really is no perfect zombie fighting weapon... bullets run out, and if you get to close to a zombie your chance of infection increases by the hundreds of percentiles. fighting a zombie is always going to be dangerous... the old gun with the old bayonet for me...

What seems to be the best weapon, from World War Z, is the Lobotomizer (Lobo)
it is described as a "a fusion of double bladed battle axe and a shovel with a straight steel rod as a handle."
it was designed by the marines using recycled car parts
It's secondary use was as a entrenching tool

Ok man I'm not saying I agree but I'm not saying I don't disagree. However first off, certain people perffer certain weapons (everyone is diffrent some weapons are better in the hands of others and vice versa.), second "The Guide" yes has many good idea's but it is not fact. The "lobo" is not the best weapon although it has it's strong points, just as much as I could argue about a machete being being the perfect weapon. "The guide" and "World War Z" can be used in some ways but can't be taken quite as sierusly my friend... We yet to see what we're up against for that...

My score is 3776, what's yous? http://ww2.zombieinitiative.org/node/2515
