Of Old and New Posts... A Blogger's Tale...

Since I have been a member lurking about the site I have noticed countless replies in countless threads telling countless members to search and make sure the topic has not been brought up before.

Repetition gets annoying, no doubt of it, but is it really so bad to kind of resurface interesting facts and topics? I mean if it's within reason. If you post something said in one of the recent posts(>), that's just silly, but is it really so bad to bring up some > great escape plan long since hidden in the zombieinitiative's archives? >

I don't think so, but what do you guys think?

I agree, no offence to those who made the rule, but sometimes people change as well as answers. Plus that search engine is a little hard to use... (it's like google...)

My score is 3776, what's yous? http://ww2.zombieinitiative.org/node/2515

I think it's fine.
And I'm not just saying that cause I'm new and I've been doing a lot of it.
I it gets brought up alot it's important and new view points may emerge on it.

While thats true, it shows a lack of thought or effort on the new poster to not taking time to check and post on the old topic. Which would bring it back to the frontpage for a nice little review.

Also, whats wrong with google?

Yeah, OD. I agree it's takes little effort to go through hitting the 'reply' key. Instead, I'd like to see posters maybe starting a new topic with a different spin off on old topic? Hmm..

Google? Nothing wrong with it. I really miss it right now. (whimper) Some of us like it!

now that i think about it, this actually is a touchy topic. you can never REALLY know if some one did their research, so you can never really know if their serious or just ignorant. i just think i see the 'you should have looked better' a little too often.

Whole-hearted applause, there. At times, veteran responses to newbie threads have been pithy, disdainful and not helpful.

And the "you should have... We talked about this... four years ago" really gets old when one is directed to a post that is nine pages deep, and veers from topic to topic like a drunk man on roller skates.

So, to those pots calling kettles, be more specific. If said topic was broached, then point the new poster specifically to the meat of the subject, not to some drawn-out, meandering thread.

Then he or she, if they have something to contribute, can quote from the good part of a post, not the tail-end, where everything has become discombobulated.

And the search? come on. Really!? In order to be permitted to start a thread, the new poster must research whether and to what extent the topic was covered?! Everyone here can be tried and convicted for re-hashing older ideas, making somewhat off-topic comments, and possibly irrelevant polls. Let me make sure to wear my tie and cummerbund and best spats before I darest poke a key.

Of course there are rule-outs to every courtesy: If the new post includes...
"Brooks is god"
"Zombies are kewl"
"I have the best weapon"
or my favorite: grammar and spelling So original that only the user knows the rules.

Then that's a free-fire zone. Civilians get out of the way. New poster... you deserved it.

We look at the fact a new user that is 5 minutes old will do some searching around the site before posting. I know there are a large amount of new users on here that have been lurking for a long time, but the fact remains that we would love to see either more information or a different spin from the original post as available.

I do not think it is a bad thing that someone makes a new topic about something, but I would rather see a well thought out and in detailed topic instead of a plainly obvious thoughtless blog post.

The reason I ask for people to do research is so they read through other topics and read the comments on there to better know how most users on here react to certain topics. If you look in the old topics and see a large amount of users bashing the weapon vs. weapon polls, do you not think that it will be quite immediate to understand that many users here do not like them?

Common sense.

Nothing really but sometimes you get lots of things you didn't even know your search included...
