Fasting is the conscious denial of all but a minimal amount of food intake usually done for religious reasons. Survivalists can learn a thing or two from the idea of fasting by learning how hunger affects them personally. The idea is not to do this for an obsessive amount of time, but only for a day or two at a maximum and only (maybe) one a month or every few months.
Here, the main concern is to learn about your own personal limitations and the practice should only be done when there are other people around for your own safety (if you come to find out that you pushed yourself way too hard). One would be surprised how often we eat and how much one’s body can do without food. Now, I am not telling people not to eat or to take this idea way to far, but knowing what real hunger feels like would help survivalists, especially if one knew before a real survival situation reared it’s ugly head. Just an idea of the members to consider.
I would be willing to bet that many of the members here would not know what real hunger was because they have always had the option to just go to the store or look in icebox, but what if you did not have that option? What if you had to hunt your own food? Thoughts and comments are more than welcome so please, tell me what you think of this idea.

I for one think it would a great idea to test limitations and see how i would cope. But i'm not going to. Not right now anyway, I live in england its not like i can just walk into the wilderness we hardly have and hunt.
I did not mean that one would have to go to the wilderness, you can fast right in your own home. I do understand what you mean though.

I went to one of those christian academies for around 3 years when I was younger, and we did fasts every two or three months.
It's always pretty cool to see what your body can do even when it's out/low of energy.
Because The Muppet Show Said So.

I have some religious fasts throughout the year. Fasting is not fun. You have to be really careful with your blood sugar. Especially if you have blood sugar issues. Devout Muslims do a long fast every year. Lucky for me I'm not Muslim, no way could i handle the week.
If you are really hunting animals I think food will be more abundant than you think. Animals have to eat to, forests have lots of stuff. The desert would be a different story.
ive attempted to fast before..all attempts failed. I think now though after your post chilbert i will give fasting another try,but with more vigor! I think knowing the difference between real hunger and the "munchies" would help me lower my food intake, and help me lower my body fat.
just your resident communist!!
As I have cautioned before, just do not over do it.

I grew up poor so i know what its like to go without or with low ammounts of food. Its not really hard but it is annoying. Stomach just won't shut up.
Winning isn't a reason to get a reward but one less poke in the eye, while losing gets you two.

Hunger is my most treacherous foe. I would like to eat its children.
Fasting is often a religious practice. It is good to do every now and again. Like within one week every 6 months or so. It is a means to clean your body of all toxins you constantly consume while voyaging on a great realization.
It is difficult for people who have little to no self control to do as such, but one can train themselves to do as such.
As Chilbert stated- fasting should be done with caution. It is wise to drink plenty of water and take vitamin pills throughout the fasting schedule.
Alcohol, tobacco, and fast food/ junk food is something not needed. You can not truly fast while on those products.
The following site is a great resource for those wishing to understand how to safely fast and how it may help:

I think its important to note the the most effective way to do a fast is not to totally stop eating but to do a juice fast. My sister had some health issues and took a less conventional route and went to a natural health institute (yeah, my family are hippies) -- they fed her juice for 2 weeks straight. It cleans you out hard and fast. Wheat grass juice ... WHEW ... that stuff will clear you out even faster.
Whatever you do, if you do a fast, make sure you are careful about it and don't it it if you have ANY chronic health conditions without first consulting a physician. If you don't know how to fast, it can be DANGEROUS and stupid.
I think if you aren't used to fasting, stick with the juice fast, or try a One-Day fast, so you dont overdo it. Either way, get liquids and some nutrients into your body.
All that needs to be said is this: FIRE = BAD
