I live in a semi small town in the not so great state of Kentucky..
When the shtf I have to different destinations I can immediately head to for the first wave..
Option one
A small warehouse building for machinery. It is surrounded by a very strong 12 foot steel mesh fence with concrete support bars, decent access to town for resources, machinery and building materials available on sight for stronger barricade
Option two
Farther from the town and closer to the suburbs where i live about a mile into a 500 acre patch of thick forest with access to a river. I have a barricade i built that is stocked with enough food and supplies to easily last a few good hearty weeks with a few others, This is the place i store all my bug out equipment i cant bring home. It has access to neighborhoods for scavenging and access to the river where i have a boat.
so please give me ur imput,

you should try to go for the warehouse, because the main thing everyone forgets when talking about hiding in the woods is that you will be open to the elements... but the barricade with your bug out gear would work unless there are weather related problems
oh it'll get you somewhere, it'll get you bait
Defo go for the warehouse if its as safe as you claim i reckon you could even make a long term stake there. As for the woods...i believe ive mentioned this before but leanr guerrilla tactics my friends, if they can beat Americans (no offence) then they can sure as hell beat zombies, learn the surroundings make tree houses, become one with the jungle
I used to think i was screwed come z-day but i forgot that ive got a RAF base 8km down the road which is surrounded (literally) by a 5 ft deep ditch with metal fences around it and to top it off a very large roll of razor wire to stop me from getting in........ oh crap

barbed wire is not a good defense mainly because zombies will get tangled and if more then one will clamber over each other and get in, and humans are worse they can cut them or as just as u said put a clth over it and hop it. personally i would dig a 20ft deep trench around ur hold out and fill with oil or any flamable sustance and zombies willwalk and fall right in, then u can charr them to death. for humans do the same thing and cover it up good with a net not to thick so it wont hold their weight and they will fall. thetrench is too deep so zombies and humans cant get out. plus with humans when and if you kill them u can go out an dget their stuff, if you didn't burn them.

Which environment would be better? An environment with no zombies!

hmmm..... that sound good but the problem is... finding that area
oh it'll get you somewhere, it'll get you bait
the problem with a giant trench full of flamable liquids is..uuhhmm...finding the tons of gallons u would need!
