The Rabies theory

MartinStatic Posted: Fri, 07/11/2008 - 07:14

Hey I'm new to this, introduced by my friend ZombieManick, and thought I'd give a theory...we all know that zombies are going to need some sort of way to be able to move and have alot of bodily function, so I had a thought about a possible virus...now I know that this isn't really a ZOMBIE virus, but if it mutates and grows, then it could be the closest thing.

This is taken from my Biography :

Quote:
''It can happen. There is no reason for it not to happen. We all know the basic stereotype; they mumble, groan, slide around and eat flesh, which they infect. And the modern views of them being clever, being able to run and work together. Despite all views and theories, one thing is common; they are dead. Well, being a little more realistic, lets look at the possabilities of a virus. As said by George Romero;

Quote:
''Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills get up and kill.'
'

Lets' look at rabies. Once infected from being bitten, it can take up to 2 years for the first symptoms to appear.
These will include cerebral dysfunction, anxiety, insomnia, confusion, agitation, abnormal behavior, paranoia, terror, hallucinations, progressing to delirium.

If such a virus is already existent in everyday life around us, which we are commonly vaccinated against, then it is only a matter of time before it mutates, adapts to out immunity and grows into such a way that will result in an outbreak.

Here is a picture showing areas of reported rabies in 2001. This is recent.

True, this isn't zombie per se, and will still rely on human functions and nerves to live, but all it takes is a similar virus based on it, or for it to mutate in a certain way (which is likely) and it will begin.

To be prepared, and to not be shocked, will be a common trait among survivors after the potential outbreak is over.''

Thanks for hearing me out, I'm new as I said. Great site. Smiling

EDIT : Thanks to 'H' for this map showing area's without Rabies;

We have discussed this theory many times, but I like the style in which you plead your argument. Keep it up.

Ive theorized something extremely similar. Give me a little while Ill post a link to the strand of virus I remember. I wanna say it is Vesicular Stromitis or something to that nature. The link I'll give should explain why it worries me.

No one said it had to be rabbies, but a rabbies strain would be one of the most logical vehicles for a zombie virus.

Yeah, england ireland wales and scotland doesnt have rabies. Thus why we have such tight quarentine on animals coming over.

Quote:
The complete eradication of rabies in England has become a classic in medical history. Following an epidemic of the disease in 1897, the muzzling of all dogs in infected areas was made compulsory until the disease disappeared. There has been no death from rabies in England since 1902. A six-month quarantine on all imported dogs prevents its re-entry. Since then, several other western European countries, Australia and Hawaii have proved that rabies can be wiped out.

Though saying this, even though we dont have rabies, if it did somehow mutate into a zombie virus thing (which i think is what you said but im not going back to re-read, ill jsut look stupid instead) and people have it unknowingly and all for a while im pretty sure it wouldnt take long to get over here on planes and boats and whatnot.

unless we start quarentining people too... now that would be damned fun!!!

And if im right in thinking that your vaccine is a live one? in which case it would only take a little too much (well a damned lot too much of it) and youd all have rabies. I hope none of the scientists who make it would think a zombie apocalpyse would be a fun... Cause after all it is pretty similar as you said. (i think... as i said im not going back to e-read and my short term memory is zero...)

Well... good luck with none of the scientists (or doctors or whoever makes vaccines) decides to go crazy!!! infact they could inject anything into you... im glad i dont need anymore jabs.

oh and heres a picture showing rabies free countires in green... jsut cuase i felt like it Laughing out loud

Cool! Yeah you don't look stupid, hah you were right. Smiling

But I'm just thinking about the affects it has, and how a virus could be 'made' to have smiliar effects...or, of course, if rabies just mutated :S

Thanks for the feedback people Smiling
