Bug Out Bag (BOB): A portable survival bag packed with survival related items and kept on the ready in case of an emergency. There are many versions of the BOB and what is used or put in one is only limited by the individual imagination of the user and the space provided for use. For example, the trunk of a car can be a very large BOB or a small carrying pack worn about the waist (also known as a fanny pack) can be a small BOB. Cache': The storing of weapons and or survival related items. A cache' can be small or large and (much like a bug out bag) is only limited by the imagination of the individual and the space available. Usually, a cache is hidden from all but those who are supposed to know of it's existence. Flags: Another form of non-verbal communication which may have a pre-established code or universal meaning. For example, a white flag is the international sign for surrender. Fire: A necessary element for survival that should be used with caution at all times. Fire can easily turn into an uncontrollable blaze of death and destruction. That said, when used with the correct planning and proper safety precautions fire is a necessity in providing heat, light, and cooked food. Fire can also be used to make weaponry (such as swords and knives) when coupled with a the right training and tools. Finally, there is the ever popular and all too dangerous Molotov Cocktail. They may be easy to make, but just because you can do something does not mean you should. The use of fire as a weapon should be avoided if at all possible due to its unpredictability. Trying to kill a flaming zombie running or shambling at you will be just as hard, if not harder, than a regular runner or shambler. Firearms: A weapon that fires projectiles (usually bullets) with explosive propellant in a controlled manner. Also known as a gun, rifle, shotgun, revolver, carbine, etc. Note, a crossbow is not considered a firearm as opposed to a ranged weapon because it is not driven by an explosive propellant like gunpowder. Although, one could argue that the force of the crossbow itself is explosive. Food: A necessary survival supplement that provides essential nutrients and nourishment. While the human body can survive longer without food than water, it is still necessary to replenish what water cannot. There are many forms of food and in a survival situation, it may be in the form of something not eaten on a normal basis (such as bugs, small lizards, and non-game animals). All food that is killed/captured/raw should be cooked so to reduce health risks. Also, survivors may want to use spices and sauces to reduce bad taste if possible. Gun : Another word for firearm. A civilian can purchase these at a military surplus store or website. While a good survival food choice, the packaging can be cumbersome as MREs tend to be rather large. To be clear, looting is because you can but not for survival whereas procurement is for survival because you need said goods. It is a very fine line, but one that should be minded. Scav·enge [skávvənj] Scout: To gather information about a specific place, thing, or person so to further one's survival. This information can be used to make a map or plan of action. The person who gathers this information is known as a scout. The U.S. military uses scouts to help map out terrain and "do" the above described job (scouting). Note: There are two note worthy organizations which use the term scout for it's members (Boy and Girl Scouts of America). Upon resurrection, the creature's biological and/or neurological functions are altered such that the creature is still able to move and function with lack of a working organ system. The creature's behavior is altered to produce highly aggressive actions, often caring only to attack, mutilate, and/or eat, thereby spreading the foreign agent to non infected parties. The creature will appear to have greater strength and stamina than once applied before resurrection due to its disregard for personal welfare and possibly a lack of response to pain. There is great debate among many people about many aspects of this definition, but, this would be a guideline for the minimum qualifications that many believe would Define a Zombie. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4H Club (n.): Derogatory slang for any number of doomsday cults that sprung up around the zombie crisis; as in Four Horsemen (of the Apocalypse).
