I assure you, this isn't what it might sound like. Nothing is changing on ZPI, I just want to make sure something is clear.
I want to know what license you all think material on this site should belicensed under. The content that you all create in the form of articles, books/fiction, and forum posts -- how is this information to be licensed to the world at large?
I was thinking Creative Commons non-commercial, share-alike, attribution license:
This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License.
Now, I ask you this because this will directly affect you. Bascially what this license says is that we don't care if you use our information, we don't care if you modify our information, and we don't care in what way you distribute our information so long as 4 conditions are met:
- We are credited properly
- You aren't selling this information
- You don't make the words say or mean something different by how you modify them (i.e., if I say "Racism is bad, but ice cream is good" and you credit me as saying "Racism is good", that's not allowed)
- Whatever you do with this information, this derivitive work uses the same license
If some are worried that they wouldn't be allowed to make information into a book and sell it, that's not exactly right. Since a book costs money to produce and distribute, a book can be made, but we have to make the same information available for free digitially.
This will affect any content created from this point on and any information contained on the site from before. If, however, someone obtained the information from the site before we establish a license, we can't say anything, because we didn't make it clear.
So. Boring question, but what license should we have?
All that needs to be said is this: FIRE = BAD |
