Well and Purification

Catalyst Posted: Sun, 05/25/2008 - 20:44

Hiya Catalyst here! This is my first forum so be nice! I was looking around and was wondering why there aren't any posts on having your own well so i decided to give you a link on how to make your own! I think this will be a lifesaver, especially for someone like myself in california where it duznt rain too often.

its just something I found in rush and I am sure there are better wells you can make but this is just something to get you thinking. Also here is something else I also find very interesting. It is a bottle purifyer that can purify water of bacteria, urine, debris, and *gasp* viruses!!! It even does a better job than the best purification plants. That will come in handy for purifying beachwater as well for those of you who live nearby one, and whats left in the bottle would be nothing but salt right? That stuff is gonna get pretty rare sometime soon (i wouldn't suggest using that same bottle for purifying urine though.)

I would suggest stocking up more than one since it can only take 6,000 liters max. In case if the well water is impure cuz some idiot decided to go around creating zombie mass graves i would suggest using the bottle purifyer all the time. I hope u likey!!! I am thinking of making the information here into an article after i am done doing the research on some other posts.

The lifesaver water bottle idea was discussed here before in this thread: Filter Bottle.

I read an article about using a stick to find water and it really does work if yo do it right.

As for purifying water you have a few options.

There are water pumps which depending on the filter can be pretty dependable.
You can also chemically purify water if there's no debris in it.
Iodine and Chlorine are popular. Hope you don't mind the taste.
You can also create a sun-still which involves the sun evaporating the dirty water and then you catch the gas and re-condense it.
I've seen a few UV-filters but I don't trust 'em.

When in doubt boil it.

If you're feeling lucky you can try a homemade filter.

boiling is good for killing everything. if you can't do anything else, at least do that.

if the water is contaminated with lead or other metal/mineral toxins though boiling won't always work. you'd have to distill it or have a quality modern water filtration pump (i keep one in my bug-out bag along with my water purification tablets) that will filter out chemical contaminants. chemical contaminants can kill you just as quick or quicker than bacteria in some cases.
