I know this topic probably won't go very far but still, I would like to know what people think about something that occured to me after reading I Am Legend.
lol. plot sploiler.
anyway, in the book Neville is the last man alive and manages to maintain himself for quite a long time and fight off the nocturnal beasts that attack his house each night. Then the major twist in the story is that he gets warned ahead of time is that somehow there are vampires who can manage to handle themselves by taking a pill that was developed by another of their kind. All of a sudden he discovers that there is a whole new society forming and now it is socially accepted to live off of blood. all of a sudden a man that had no rules and was the victim of the harsh world around him is now the biggest enemy to the rest of the known world. In the end they had him executed for murder because of all the sleeping vampires (their loved ones) he killed over time.
Not only was this an unsettling thought for me, it also brought up another idea. What happens after you spend about 3 years surviving and battling your own demons along with the undead and then somehow society springs back up. Things go back to normal and everyone forgets that not so long ago the world was hell. How do you adapt to that? Because could you imagine having seen your undead wife kill your child and then having to kill her? Could you imagine fighting the resulting depression all by yourself only to see another society erupt and turn into an even bigger mass of assholes than the last one you witnessed? Imagine New York City times 1000. And on top of that they'd probably only persecute you. And what if the other survivors all happened to be some crazy dickweeds from a religious cult that want to sacrifice you? There. That is my long, gruesome, tiring subject. Now what do you have to say on it?

I would first like to say how mush they screwed up the movie from the book. Anyways, I think that it would take about 3 generations or so before a significant change could take place, and by that I mean a society and culture be formed into tradition. Chances are that the people who were there when the shit went down will be dead before society erupts into the blob that it will once again become.
