Good luck constructing a fortress last minute. It would take serious manpower to dig a 8-9 ft deep moat around your land (i dont know how much you own, but im sure its alot)
With a workforce of atleast 5, you could get the job done in a week if you really hauled ass.
Length of the moat, for want of a better word would be the deciding factor. but a JCB or equivilent would make small work of the excavation. A fence seems okay except with the sheer mass of pressure from bodies that don't feel pain. at a disaster in the UK a surg of people into a stadium bent 4 inch round bars crushing people.
If you live to the post Z-Day phase of organized farming then there is likely to be little threat of Undead infiltrating in mass numbers.
No survivors will be establishing farms until at least one and a half years after Z-Day. There will be enough food to scavenge for that time frame for one, and two it will take a long time to find the perfect set up, acquire the tools necessary, and collect the crops to be sown.
It is doubtful that a large, complex security system will be needed at this point. Although we cannot assume too much about the Undead, one thing that is certain is that they will not live forever. Even if 9/10 people on the planet become Undead (Which is unlikey) only a percentage of the world lives in the America's. England has it made. Nothing is perpetual, whether through falling off a cliff, being caught in a tornado, killed by other survivors, or simply degrading to the point where they are no longer effective (Usually one and a half years for complete degradation of the human form, a time frame which I can only imagine would be accelerated by exposure to nature and the seasons).
There will be some Undead left, surely, but none near the numbers there will be initially.
So, personally, I think a chain link fence with a security patrol would be more then adequate.
Of course, if one insists on farming in the immediate after math of Z-Day, I would have to say that yes a large concrete barrier properly built and situated would be the most preferable choice, since the Undead won't be able to see you and I doubt Andy Dufrense will be mingling with them, Rock Hammer in hand.

For a temporary barricade I would just use would and sand bags. The wood should make it nice and high and then reinforce that with the sand bags. That's just my thoughts though.
sloped trench around property with a sheer side on the inside. Then Stone wall. Draw bridge. Old fashioned but would be very strong.
That seems like it'd cover it.. probably put some guard towers to keep an eye out.. always better to see it coming.
Winning isn't a reason to get a reward but one less poke in the eye, while losing gets you two.

Cant wait for that zombie invasion
Get a tractor and some fencing.
Because the Muppet Show said so.

one word, illegals, for about 50 bucks total you'll get your own wall of china in a day
The last one is funny. I appreciate the comments. Vote time comes soon. We should vote also on a potential stronghold.

Bah!
Use the skulls of the fallen. It worked for Vlad the Impaler.
Seriously though,I agree with yendor on this one.By the time its safe enough to farm, you shouldnt need much of a barricade.
