First of, I know, I know....everything is theoretical with no 100% way to assume zombies don't "shoot rockets out of their behinds", but I think we all can agree on that some sort of "rage virus" would be the most likely of the different sorts of outbreaks as opposed to "magical voodoo zombies"..
Now....would a blinded zombie still know where you are? If one took out the eyes of a zombie would it still be able to navigate to your position?[Keep in mind...still theorizing about rage virus here..]. A blind man could ofc hear you, maby even smell the scent of your blood if you were bleeding, but he could not accurately pinpoint your location, since the assumption of infected to evolve super natural senses is fairly remote[seeing as we have already mild forms for rage viruses[Rabies], but no sort of supernatural forces known to man?
This would actually also make it smarter to navigate in the dark if you had IR goggles [no matter how stupid that sounds if you look to horror movies:P].
So...if you actually managed to blind a zombie with smoke, shoot out eyes, heck even throw dust to the eyes, would you have the upper hand? Thoughts anyone?
Blood is red, brains are blue, I'll kill all Zombies, starting with you! |
I assume so.
If anyone says "assume makes an ass out of u and me", I will hunt you down and eat your loved ones.
so back to assuming, I assume it would, I hope it would, but I prepare for the zombie who uses sonar.
Hm....yes...that's what I assumed too...
Real reason I started thinking about this is due to the nature of obtaining ranged weapons. Now Im a fairly good shot, but due to ze weapon laws the only thing I can buy would be a gas operated 30 mag air rifle....still takes out eyes with no problem though...
And Im guessing smoke bombs would then be semi useful to create diversions for a get away?

You could, but that may or may not have an effect on them. What happens if you pluck the zeds eyes, only to find that they can use sense of smell just as effectevly? Best just to kill them.

It'd be fun! Somebody call me when they get a zed alive.

In a 28 days scenario, I think it would be perfectly feasable to blind a "rager" with smoke, dust, flashbangs, etc. This is because while they have become mindless killing machines, they are also still living humans, and should experience many of the same reflex actions as an uninfected human. Dust, smoke, and intense bright flashes of light all irritate the eye, causing watering, and a need to remove the irritant, so i think in that case these methods would work well.
Now in the case of a true Zed, I don't see irritant smoke as an effective agent due to the lack of ability to feel pain, the lack of tears in the eyes, etc. I would place the use of dust in the same category, for the same reason. Flashbangs may work because of their ability to overload the optic nerve, and damage to the retina of the eye.
I think a blinded Zed would be much easier to avoid than a sighted one, simply due to the fact that I see no evidence for why they would develop, or use their other senses to an equal extent as their eyes. Humans are sight based beings, we have evolved as such. While it has been shown that over time blind humans can develop their other sense to greater acuity, this is a gradual porcess for some taking years of being without sight. I see no reason to believe that a newly blinded Zed would adapt fast enough to remain a full looming threat.
apologies for the text wall.
i have suggested this on the mythbusters site, but for some reason they have not gotten back to me. perhapse it was because the name i gave was DIEZOMBIEDIEDIEDIE!!!!!!!
Dont know how valuable my hipothetical opinion is, being new here and all, but i would say that blinding a zombie wouldnt be that effective probably. Sure it might help, but not that much...
as a killing machine, it would be dependant on his senses, and as such, smelling and hearing can help him/her to find a prey. Also, depending on the type of virus that infected him, he could very well have night vision integrated...
in the end, doing something like turning off the lights will affect you more. Using smoke as a distraction could prove useful, and yet, you would not see your way, would you? doesnt sound safe to me...
And, if you can shoot his eyes, you can prolly kill him by other means. If you are near enough to trow dust on his eyes/gouge them other way, you are too close and prolly in a thight spot...blinding him wont be of much help. punch and run is prolly more effective. xD
but it sure makes me think... what if the zombie was already blind before being zombified?
Dream Is Destiny
Why would you want to blind a zombie when you could kill it instead?
Cant wait for that zombie invasion
lol, urgh...
