When Z Day arrived, you had supplies, you have fortified your home/ site as best you can with materials at hand, you have gathered all the weapons you had at the time, you filled every container, tub and sink with water, and you managed to do so without drawing immediate attention from the dead or raiders. The initial fires and riots did not reach you. Then time passes. Electricity went out after a day and a half. Water stopped flowing from the faucets after a couple days. Supplies and water have started to run low. You put out some containers to catch rain water, but skies are clear. You have started getting sick to your stomach from some source you are not sure (bad food/ sanitation/ the general stink of a dying world). You have made some limited trips for supplies, fire wood, water, weapons, survivors, or something else you wanted. These trips have had moderate success. They may have drawn attention, but you dispatched the dead that tracked you before they did much damage. Now the dead are starting to gather in greater numbers blocking your exits more and more and straining your defences. You try to keep them clear and dispose of the bodies, but you have to sleep some time. Do you stay and continue to fight the tide as your supplies and health run low? Do you make a break for it while you still can and have some supplies for the escape? At what point do you "abandon ship" and head for a new location? What is your trigger for the decision to leave a site that has served you so far?

When the dead start taliking to me. Is when I go.
If you love something let it go and if it doesent return in two weeks hunt it down and shoot it in the kneecap.
Great question and well asked. I think that one should always be ready to move. My meaning, as soon as the house is set and barricaded/secured, etc, one should be working on restocking their bug out bag and should be ready to leave at the slightest push to do so. One could take a lesson from the martial artist in that one should choose to act depending upon what his opponent is doing. If the zombies have not yet invaded your home and are just wandering aimlessly, then one should lay low and be sure to draw little (if any) attention. One should only move in the above situation if one has to do so, adapt to the environment and situation. The "trigger" should be the point in which one knows that one cannot survive in their shelter anymore.

I wouldn't even attempt to flee the shelter until my groups or my own survival is starting to be threatened.
Even if your stuck in your home/site with little supplies your still in a zombie safe area for the time. You could use that time to try and plan out where to try to move to or what you should do.
Because The Muppet Show Said So.

There is a lot to be said about knowing the terrain and surveillance of an area before heading into a bad (possibly deadly) situation. I think Malachi (glad to see you're ok after that wall of text incident)"hit the nail on the head" with the idea to plan your advance. However, if one cannot plan for such a move due to the situation then one should still have a bug out bag ready and fully stocked. Your own determination and willpower to survive along with your wits will be your saving grace.

I abandon when i have no communication to the outside. When there are no survivors on my side. At this point staying is futile. If i have at least one survivor with me then it should still be considered of staying at the secure location. There are variables aside from what you have stated that need to be taken into consideration. But with what you've given me I have to make the decision of leaving once i have extremely low amount of survivors.

When staying puts my life in direct danger, just before the point of no leaveing.
The world will end not with a bang but with a wimper.
depends on the classification of zombies....again
if they only go towards noise then there isn't a point in leaving, just sit tight for a while and wait, they'll leave or at least stop focusing on you and in that time you can get mores supplies or bug out, if their runners then your kinda screwed trying to leave anyway
i do agree with the whole "if your the last one then leave" thinking, well i'd try to find survivors rather than bug out, likely hood is what little supplies there are to be used as a fortress construction aid are probably gone already for other peoples would be castles so the likelihood of you being able to create something as good as what you have is small...now theres always the possibility of you being able to find a fortress with a bunch of chicks, beer, guns, plenty of food, and its impenetrable...not to mention they have solar panels and have hacked into Direct TV....but that is a wonderful dream and is all but impossible....back on topic, the likelihood of you finding a decent hide out with others after the crap is small in my opinion...and them being nice makes that possibility yet smaller
well i don't feel like talking anymore my 2 braincells are tired im going back into my box to rest
