Staying in touch

So, i'm fairly new here so i don't know if this has been discussed or not, but me and a buddy were discussing our plan and how all of you guys have your own plans when a thought struck me. "How would we all communicate with each other?"

The only thing i came up with was AM radio but i think that has limited range plus you have to have power to use it.

So suggestions, comments, discuss.

In the case of an out break you can pretty much count on land line phones lasting a couple of days, after public power shuts off the have auxiliary power that kicks in and covers a couple days, after the first day frantic people will stop trying the phones cause they're not getting through. Satelite phones should work for a bit after all hell breaks loose. And If you fortify an area with a cell tower and you have a big enough group you can reprogram cellular phones and use them via the cell tower as long as you have gas to run the cell tower generators or if you can figure out a way to separate the area from the rest of the grid and get a power station running.

C.B radios are a good one too, I meant to agree with that earlier.

This might be helpful.

There are many ways to keep in contact... I just think it would be a cool idea to have carrier pigeons. Heh. Go with a CB radio with a few car batteries and a solar pannel. That should keep you up and running for at least 5/ 10 years.

Yea, thats what i was thinking but like your where your thread died at there Bfish. We should have a channel set for after it z-day hits. So we can coordinate our survival hives, maybe even gather or return some semblance of civilization..

Of course, i'm thinking like 5-10 years after everything starts.. i'm always thinking for the long-term survival after preparation doesn't matter...

Actually carrier pigeons are a good idea ... if you can train them ... but the main reason they are good is because you can eat them if you need to.
