I think that one of the most important things that we will be working to get if we lose power (zombies or no) will be light. Humans have become so reliant on light that I think we will need to adjust quickly when we no longer have sufficient batteries to power our gizmos and gadgets and such.
To this end, I'm always fascinated by the dynamo/solar powered flashlights (and in fact have 3 of my own), but I'm frustrated with the cost-to-performance ratio. Since we're talking about some wire, a magnet, some LEDs and some housing, why am I spending $20-$50 dollars for a piece of mediocre hardware.
Suffice it to say, when I saw these instructions to make my own shake powered flashlight I was a little excited. I always like custom builds, more control, more power, more learning.
Of course, now that I found this one, I was wondering if anyone else had a nice little website they wanted to share that talks about making something (legal) that would be useful for survival purposes -- I have a few more, so if no one posts anything, I'll dig through my favorites and share a few more.
Note: Just so people aren't confused, I am referring to a more classical term for hacking, that is recombining/rebuilding/remaking something old into something new. Not the concept of hacking a computer or a network.
All that needs to be said is this: FIRE = BAD |
How about a super-bright flashlight for around $10.

Yeah, I have quite a few... Hold on- let me find out where they are located. I just got the computer online. (I AM SOOOOO HAPPY NOW)

I thought that Elliot and other members would appreciate this Dynamo Emergency Kit. It is more than the standard flashlight on a crank. (The website has some great prices on it's other items too.)
