One of the oldest means for securing something to something else, tie a rope to it. Rope and string are going to be absolutely essential pieces of equipment come z-day. Whether it be the rope used to hold you tent up, cord wrap you new spear, or repair clothing and parts of your kit. There are so many different uses for rope and I was surprised to find no one had thought to post some ideas about it here in the 0ld tech and new ideas section. It is definitely old technology but with the modern process of making rope through braiding and the use of different fibers, should not everyone at least get acquainted with some of the uses of a simple string. For example: One could make a koppo wrap for a tactical flashlight. There are also many different considerations on what kind of rope and string to carry. For example, fishing twine is an often overlooked survival item that has so many different uses in the practical realm that I will not even begin to list all the thing you could do with it; suffice to say that the value of having a spool of fishing twine in your kit will reveal itself frequently (so much so that you may consider carrying more than one spool). Something else to consider, braided rope. Rope braiding has increased the load bearing capacity of rope by making tougher strands, carry some of this may also be something to look into. The best thing about rope is that you can store it very easily depending on type and it is not very heavy to carry. You can buy a spool of braided rope from walmart or your local sporting goods store for cheap. Speaking of all this rope, how about building on your knowledge of different knots and their uses.

My major challenge to you in this post is to think up something you know how to do with rope and share it with the rest of the site (please keep it people friendly, I do not want this topic zombified).

I would recomend checking out any scout hand book or the armys Engineer handbook both have lots of knots and lots of uses for them (i know how to blow things up with knots of det cord...)

I personally think that smoke had an excellent answer because a picture "is worth a thousand words." You can tell people to go look in a boyscout handbook or you can show them how to make a knot. Know what I mean? However, I had not considered detonation cord because I am trying to stay away from the making of or use of explosive if I don't "have" to.

you know you can cut down trees with det cord? and aside from that you can get into just about anywhere with a donut charge.... But aside from that i do reccomend looking into the engineers handbook it has alot of knots and it also has some pictures if you can get your hands on a copy and it should be included in your bugout bag
