What to or not to wear during and after Z-Day

Shadow01192 Posted: Mon, 02/04/2008 - 14:21

So I've been here a while and I've noticed everyone is worried about what types of weapons to use, what to eat, how to travel, where to go. But I've noticed that not many people are worried about clothing. Armor yes but whole heartedly armor isn't practical. If you have ever tried to put on armor of any kind it isn't something you can dawn in mere moments and probably not something you want to travel long distances in and if your not trains odds are you cant travel long distances in it.
I've noticed a few people thinking trench coats, to me this seems like a bad idea, Imagine running from a Zombie and it grabs your coat which you were stupid enough to put your pistol and a few clips in. Now your down a bit of ammo and an item of protection and if your not lucky you just got bit.

So i ask this question in good measure, What do you think would be the best and most practical thing to wear during Z-day? I do suggest thinking about the elements remember cold and heat can kill you just like a Zombie. Dead is dead and thats what we are trying to avoid. What do you think is the worst thing to wear during Z-day? Please explain your logic. (edited to paragraph form)

My mother always told me to take a sweater.

Because the Muppet Show said so.

Actually I have thought about this quite extensivley, and very recently too. Here's my idea for clothing/armor.

First, choose your favorite jacket, Preferably lightweight, and possibly something that would work in the cold. I picked my favorite leather jacket. It would also be advisable to pick a couple of favorite pairs of pants.

Secondly would to sew onto these items, a durable plastic material. I would use our new flexible plastic cutting boards. They are super thin, lightweight, and cannot be cut throught very easily. I would use our industrial scissors (you know, the ontes that can cut through metal) and trim the plastic into strips.

Thirdly, I would then secure these strips to my jacket over the most easily grabbed spots (forearms, upper arms, legs, etc.). Most likely I would sew these on the inside of the jacket, in the lining. So it doesn't look stupid I guess. I would sew them length wise, on the arms and legs, not around the arm like a circle. I just think it would work better, more like splint mail.

That's pretty much it...for my over armor I guess. Obviously you wouldn't want a jacket that was too loose, like a trench coat. But rather something more form fitting like a waist length leather jacket. What do you think??

Yea. . .actually that seems pretty good. i didn't think of tampering with the lining of a leather jacket like that to provide more stable support and still be warm and extra storage. Nice. What about shoes? Boots, tennies, converse? Personally i prefer either hiking boots or tennies but thats me.

I always just assumed that we'd all keep wearing the clothes we have since alot of us are pretty much done growing. I dont see clothes being hard to get though.

Because The Muppet Show Said So.

I would most preferrably want to wear something close fit without a lot of things floating free that would make for easy things to grab on to. I would also make sure my hair was cut short, because that seems like an easy thing for a zombie to grab ahold of. If you're worried about fire equaling bad, there's a cool and somewhat easy way to make cloth fireproof. It works with any porous cloth. Prepare a solution of alum and water, about 500 grams of alum dissolves easily in a pint of water, easier if the water is warm. Soak the cloth completely, take out immediately and let dry.

It is natural that such a thing as a dead man's scream should give horror, for it is obviously, not a pleasing or ordinary occurrence; but I was used to similar experiences, hence suffered on this occasion only because of a particular circumstance.

Thats the reason I'm asking. Assuming doesn't just make an ass of someone in war it gets someone killed. Clothes Break, rip, tear, get in the way at times, dont have enough pockets, are too hot, too loose, too tight, get dirty. clothes may not be hard to obtain but what about clothes that fit and can be used well. Belts, shoes, jackets, hats. And if you don't think the clothing stores will be raided in the first few days just like electronic stores by people who think of, this is my chance to get that pair of jeans i always wanted, your insane. People are stupid and their stupidity can and if we let it will cause out death.

No problem, just not sure if its foolproof.

I'll test it asap and PM you with the results. Its not like it could stop an explosion but maybe help during high flammability areas.

Test with a rag first. That way you know what you're getting into before you try it on something else.

I would wear an underarmor shirt along with underarmor pants, socks, and boxers. That way its tight fitting to the skin. Will keep you cool in hot climates and warm in cold climates. Then a good pair of combat boots. ACU pants and jacket. OD green t-shirt under the ACU jacket.
