Barracadeing you home (to be put into Staying Alive soon)

What is the best items to barracade your home with? What are the tools you will need to do so effectively? What is the fastest way I can do this?

Well first and formost putting your couch in front of your door is a BAD idea as the zeds will just come in your window in fact just placeing furicher in front of any entrance is just a bad idea as they wont keep zombies out and it will just make it harder for you to escape when you have to.

so for starters here the easyest way to barracade your home take bords and barracade via ailing them to the inside of your windows and doors now this isent the best way to barracade and it is easley broken down but it might hold long enuff for you to escape if you have 30 or 40 zeds knocking at your front door...

Now how to effectively barracade you home...

Version #1 Barracadeing with wood.

NOTE: Just about anything that is flat and sturdy (Doors tables etc) can be used in the place of boards but they will be less effective.

Tools and materials you will need. 1 inch by 4 inch by 4 ft wooden boards, 3 inch nails or screws (perferibly screws) drill with a fillips bit or a hammer.

Screw boards to the outside windows on the basment and first floor windows. You need to put the screws in at opposeing angles this will make it harder to pull the bords out. Make shure that the bords are flush with each other otherwise it will give your uninvited guests an easyer way to remove the boards.
Now barracadeing your doors (front back and side) depends how you want to do things and it also depends what type of door you have. metal is the best for useing a drop bars oak is all right anything less and you might as well barracade it from the outside like the windows.

How to make a drop bar. You get a heavy peice of metal or wood about 3-4 feet long to use as the drop bar. then you take some heavy peices of wood and screw then into the wall (make shure you use ALOT of screws) then you take some more heavy peices of wood and screw them onto the peices of wood you just attached to the door and wall to make an L shape if vued from the side (once again use alot of screws) now all you have to do is put the drop bar in the L shape and it will be alot harder to enter the house. I however will be barracadeing my doors from the outside AND be puting sevral drop bars on my doors and exiting from the roof of my house.

Version #2 Barracadeing with metal.

NOTE: If you can get your hands on some metal window bars you wont need this. If you dont know how to use a welder DONT ATTEMPT TO DO THIS.

Ever go through an area of a city where you see shops and houses with metal bars across windows? thats what im going to be telling you how to make in this one.

Tools and materials you will need. Welder, drill with a metal drill bit, 3inch screws,

WILL FINISH THIS LATER

if you want to edit this post go ahead if you want to post somthing for me to add please do if you have any questions or comments please post them as well

Will you hold me back? If need be I will leave you behind...

Awesome. Make sure you run it through a word processor to get out the kinks of course.

Make sure you are aware:

(1) You must barracade things that open or are weak
(2) If it needs to open, it needs to be easy to open, easy to close, and easy to lock
(3) If it is on the ground floor, there still needs to be light coming through
(4) There needs to be at least moderate ventilation, so the barricades need to provide some airflow
(5) The final challenge - it needs to be at least moderately weatherproof to keep warm and cool at the appropriate times

Your article looks awesome and it looks like these things will be well covered by the end. Great!!!

All that needs to be said is this: FIRE = BAD

One other way to barricade the house, if the landscaping allows it - park vehicles in front of doorways and windows. This has some distinct advantages - 1) it saves resources for barricading remaining doors and windows, and 2) you have immediate access to your vehicle with less risk of zombie attack if you need to get mobile.

Also, if you have a second floor, construct a rope ladder and destroy the stairway, if practical.

The guy who wrote this had the right idea.

Here is something I picked up. It comes from a guy who knows what he is talking about. It's to buy you time though, not to act as a permenant barricade.

"Whenever a room area is cleared it must as soon as possible be secured so as not to need clearing again. One trick I know may come in handy for securing doors and such when you don't have any available hardware. One trick I've from time to time used is to pull the hinges off of a non-critical door and by using them (with the screws you got when removing them), Secure a door against a quiet entry. If you take the hinges you recovered and screw them (see, you DO need that pocket tool) into the doorknob side of the door about 20 inches above and below the doorknob you make that door very difficult to enter. The hinge pins should be on the safe (your) side of the door. If you use them to secure hall doors there is no way for someone to re-enter the room without leaving some sign of entry on the hinges )missing pins, broken or removed hinge). If you use long screws (you did put some in your kit, I did, I use a small pill bottle to hold a small assortment of screws and nails) to set the hinges, even a weak door becomes a reasonable barrier to surreptitious entry (and buys you some time to act). Without removing the hinge or hinge pins the only way to open that door will be by breaking it down or cutting through it."
