Hell Away From Home
It is convenient for one to assume that they will be at home the zombies appear -- the home gives the owner a sense of security and familiarity. However, assuming this will be the case could prove fatal if Z-Day happens to be during your family vacation. This article is meant to simply explain an effective plan outline for the common tourist. One may be hundreds of miles away from home when a zombie shatters their hotel window looking for some tourist brain. If this were to happen, their likely well-laid plans and resources at home will be rendered useless. In order to completely plan for the zombie apocalypse, one cannot base their plan of action around the house they live in. This does not mean that it is not important to have a fortified home. A man's home is his castle, as they say, and that saying could not be taken literally enough in order to prevent multifarious walking dead people from invading it. The following measures and tips are recommended to reinforce your "Away From Home" battle plan. Whether you’re worried about zombies, a sprained ankle, a robbery or a good burger joint, the solution is always the same: do your research. It is never a bad idea to research the area you plan on visiting, pointing out grocery stores, drug stores, gun stores, supermarkets, and other places that may prove to be useful in a zombie-infested world. Also, it would be wise to bring emergency items hat would prove useful in any sort of emergency. A large flashlight, a first aid kit, a set of radios, and other compact things should be considered if you’re planning ahead. In the event of a zombie outbreak, avoid main roads, highways, and any crowded areas. With the zombies comes chaos, utter confusion, and a complete and rapid breakdown of society. People will not be very safe to be around. Traffic will become congested and you will likely be forced to move on foot. These will also make nice targets for zombie hordes. As was suggested above, have enough emergency supplies to be able to get away from the main population centers. Try to find a garrison. People who band together in fortified areas, such as a church, will prove safe for a short amount of time. This will allow you time to heal, rest, or to adjust your plan. No plan is infallible. This, however, is only suitable as a temporary solution. If you find refuge somewhere such as a church or hospital, bear in mind that so will many bitten people, and the chances of zombies attacking from within are certain. Gather intelligence on the area from the locals. The locals are right where they need to be. Utilize their knowledge. Further, you will find it useful to make some friends. It would be devastating to be alone in an apocalyptic world with no bearings on where you are except that Disney World is three miles away. Make trustworthy friends so that you can receive help and supplies, if possible. With the realization that this may be difficult if not impossible if you are overseas from your home, do your best to have an alternative route home. It would be wise to plan out some means of transportation that you could use, even if it’s a rented car or a bus ticket. These are only a few things anyone can do to ensure a much safer vacation should it be upset by a horde of rotting corpses. It is important to be on guard wherever you are, and this notion is all but considered when one plans a vacation. Just remember: the living dead don’t take vacations, they take victims. |

Just a few disagreements in number that I found. I'm anal about being as grammatically correct as I can be, sorry
THis is good ... is there a good travel website that people can use to locate these things faster.
Google Maps with Street Views may be helpful to be more aware of your location.
There is one thing that I feel you left out: WEAPONS PROCUREMENT. What I mean is this: If you are on vacation with your family and you used something in the realm of transportation such as a plane, train, or bus or other form of international transportation, then you will not be carrying your weapons with you as they are illegal and will get you into a ton of trouble. If you are planning on going on vacation, you should probably avoid such forms of transport and travel by car if possible. It may be more expensive gas wise, but who doesn't love a "GOOD" road-trip. The fact that you could pack your weapons in your vehicle is priceless when it comes to zombies, some of "us" have already made the statement that "my vehicle is my bug out bag" (I think NIE said this). If you don't have your vehicle, then you are forced to make your now backpack oriented bag even less effective due to lack of weaponry and some items that would have to be removed from your first aid kit (tweezers, scissors, needles, objects considered weapons by airline/bus/train security, etc). This leaves you with either finding weapons that do not show up during an x-ray and metal detector scan and trying to get past security or going with no weapons. I am not saying that a person could not get his hands on a weapon, but I am saying that it would be extensively more difficult to get a weapon (specifically a GUN, MACHETE, CROWBAR, KNIFE) if one was not already available for immediate use. Do not get me wrong, I am one of the first people to say the use of improvised weapons will be important (if not essential). The problem with most improvised weapons (most mind you, not all) is that they are field expedient ( meaning they last only for a short time or will only be usable once). The fact remains that well made and proven weapons will be the ones to last and the ones you can count on.
Crowbars and wrenches are nice melee weapons because you can pretty easily get away with having them (in most places) just by saying you're using them for repair job, etc.
resaerch is important whether planning for zombies or not (i always am)
Why I stress on caching. You can plan out how you travel according to where the items you cached are. Weapons could remain (where ever) for years if stored properly and you were careful in choosing their location.
As for the crowbar/wrench thing. Those are classified as burglary tools. So carrying them (unless it's required for your job) is a no no.
Agreed, but I still like the crowbar.
Nice article. I never really thought about Z-day occurring during a long trip.
