MAKE gave a simple tutorial to make an air cannon. This article is a modified version of this air cannon .. far more dangerous.

Thats good physics in action

All that needs to be said is this: FIRE = BAD

I've made potato guns but used a gas grill igniter and starting fluid. Launching a potato 100 yards or so is pretty fun.

Cell phone use in hospitals=BAD!!!!

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for I am the badest motherfucker in the valley!

I liked that he made different sized tips so he could launch different sized things.

Kinda sad he didn't mention distance or speed or time to cover the distance. If he did I could figure out the velocity pretty easily.

Vf = Vi + at
d = Vit + 1/2at
Vf^2 = Vi^2 + 2ad

Motion equations...so useful in everyday life.

Think about if you switched the flags for arrows.

You saw the broom ... that thing has some power.

I like the original design too -- its has a bike pump, so it takes time to pressurize the air chamber, but it only requires a little power for the solenoid. You could undoubtedly fix that up as well. Make the air chamber big enough and the barrel the right length you can get some big results.
