Post Z-day farming

Normally this is something you don't share with a lot of people, but we're a small enough community here that we can discuss this. High in the Artic there is a vault being constructed that is housing seeds of every plant on earth. If we are to keep surviving and need to replant the plants of the world we can make our way there, or send a team and retrieve those seeds to continue plant life either here or perhaps on another word.

Because the Muppet Show said so.

Key words that turn me off to the idea. Artic and vault. Question is what seeds would we need that we cannot get ahead of time?

Well... the fact that there's EVERY seed up there kinda makes it a treasure trove. Personally I don't think I will pick up seeds for a Mango and put that in my pack when the outbreak started. There are also many plants that we cannot carry seeds for and still plan on surviving. Besides the usual cucumbers and tomatoes that come in little bags, the other stuff is something that unfortunately i can't pack to make room for other stuff. Remember crops, take some time to grow, and instant rations are there right away.

Because the Muppet Show said so.

The fact that it's really effin cold rules it out for me. I b**** when it gets down the 50s. I can't imagine how could it would be there. Not to mention it takes time and specialized equipment to break into a vault. That's a problem when you don't know anything about it.

Something to keep in mind. I'm sure there are a lot of 'treasures' that will become available post Z-Day.

The thing is 2/3rds of Canada is basically crops. I'm sure I can find some seeds somewhere. Sticking out tongue

The thing about farming Z-Day is that maintaining a large amount of crops means a large amount of needed room. Probable unguarded room. Hate to be harvesting some Grain and have 100 Undead pop out.

Well if they are saving seeds to things like poison ivy hemlock and crab grass they should have there back sides sewed shut.

Actualy breaking into a vault only requires to break a slightly thicker wall. The reason you need special equipment is to break into that vault silently.
As for the cold i realy am cool with it.

But the farming part.Well we could have a fence built around the whole complex. It would take time and equipment but itwould prove to be quite the optimal deffense\warning.

Cause wearing a tux during Z-Day will make me look good and die trying.

I'm sure that any slightly easier way to break in the designer has also thought of it and that way is no longer easier. I beg to differ. Special equipment is needed to make breaking in faster, easier, and without harming what's inside. There will be noise, a lot of it.

I hate you.

Why are you concerned about seeds? ...and going to the arctic to get seeds?!? Are you sure that you didn't get this confused with "when the nuclear war kills us all?"

Plants make seeds. You don't need to go to the store to get seeds, you wait for the plants to make the seeds for you. If, suddenly, you don't have a fruit you have become accustomed to because it doesn't grow in your area (i.e., oranges in Minnesota) you find out what you can eat that contains the needed nutrients/vitamins (i.e., sumac berries, rosehips, etc.) from the missing food.

All that needs to be said is this: FIRE = BAD
