Well. As many of you have noticed, we have had a little round with a troll. This has prompted me to ask you a few questions:
What are your feelings on swearing?
How offended are you by racial/ethnic/sexual/gender slurs?
When does a discussion become an argument, and when is that a problem?
My thoughts have always been that you can say whatever you want, however you want, so long as it doesn't offend anyone. This hasn't been a problem to this point, and I hope it won't in the future, but if there are thoughts people have about things, please, let me know.
My forum golden rule: Don't be stupid. Don't be rude.
If you think what you are about to do might offend someone, don't be stupid, stop doing it. If you think your (pardon the term) nigger joke might offend, don't say it. If you think someone might feel as though the discussion about fire has turned into an argument, feel free to use discression, step back, and say "I don't want to sound like an ass...but..." Similarly, if you like to drop the f-bomb a lot, and feel it really adds emphasis to your argument, rethink your argument. Make sense?
All that needs to be said is this: FIRE = BAD |
Bury deep, pile on the stones
Yet I will, dig up the bones

So I have more direct feedback, heres a more pointed question:
My unwritten policy is that swearing is fine in moderation. If you're pissed and you let a couple f-bombs go, I don't care. But if every post you feel needs to be emphasized with them and a number of others, don't swear. For emphasis, great, as vernacular, fix it.
Is this policy too leniant for people? I can add a bunch of words the forum can censor out, but I don't want to. Let me know what you think.
All that needs to be said is this: FIRE = BAD
I'm pretty sure everybody here can handle the naughty words - I certainly don't have a problem with them. And it seems to me most people here at least try to have some basis in fact in their sides of the debates that have popped up. And up until our little pre-pubescent friends found this site, there was little to no ad hominem crap.
And at this point the fire thing is an inside joke for the forums...
The battle rages but they fight in vain
When all is done it must begin again

FIRE = BA--....
Sorry. Got a little excited.
All that needs to be said is this: FIRE = BAD
<<<<swearing = dont care i most likely swear more than anyone else on this fourm however i have turned it down alot recently
racial/ethnic/sexual/gender slurs i would leave the fourm if this was allowed to happen as i am a SHARP and i think ive mentioned this before so i wont rant on it more
as for fire F!RE=B@D
HA I WIN XD
Will you hold me back? If need be I will leave you behind...
Swearing is fine. I agree that it should be kept in moderation, but that should fall under an umbrella rule that you should seek to express yourself clearly. Using AOLSpeak is just as bad as using a post to drop a string of swears.
Racism should be bannable. It doesn't help to convey ideas at all and that's what we are here to do.
I was killin' zombies before it was cool.
SHARP = Skin Head Against Racial Prejudice and i am one of these people and i do not tolerate racial slurs and shit like that
Will you hold me back? If need be I will leave you behind...
i'm sorry, but i don't get it. aren't skinheads nazis which = predjudiced against pretty much everyone besides the aryan race? and if you aren't racist, what is the point of being a skinhead anyways?
It is a mistake to fancy that horror is associated inextricably with darkness, silence and solitude.
Tread carefully Bee, a skinhead is just someone who has a shaved head, there's little to no connection with the Nazis or Hitler

skin·head P Pronunciation Key (sknhd)
n. Slang
A person with a shaven head.
A member of any of various groups of people, especially young people, who shave their heads and sometimes participate in white-supremacist and anti-immigrant activities.
right you are, lyinginbedmon...but i'm right as well. and i wasn't trying to offend. i was asking because i was honestly curious. and i've had a shaven head, but i wouldn't classify my self, nor have i EVER been called a skinhead. although i suppose i technically was.
